SHOES on or OFF? & the dreaded tong?

Victoriasdad's thread reminded me of this...

I wonder how many of us have kids who BALL UP THEIR TOES when we try putting their shoes on?
I can raise my hand to that...Jelani and I work our butts off every morning and he laughs at me because I'm trying SO hard ...and then when he's back home from school on the bus....well his shoes are already off and somewhere in his backpack!

Ahhh, shoes, that's always a fun topic.

I think it's about time to make Jelani 'work so hard' at getting those shoes on!! If he's old enough to laugh at you about it, he's old enough to start doing it on his own!!! LOL

The whole taking off his shoes on the bus thing will blow over eventually. It is quite an irritating phase though!

2 years ago Eric would throw his shoes and socks at the bus driver....thankfully, she had alot a patience AND a sense of humor. He still takes his shoes and socks off as soon as he gets home, but he definetly has outgrown that lovely phase...( I hope I didn't jinx myself here).
So there is hope!

We are always amazed when Damara still has her shoes and socks on after being in any house for longer than 2 mins! They are the 1st to come off...But, she does keep them on until she is in someone's home...unless of course they are sandles...if they are velcro, they are off anytime she is not walking!!!
Can't wait for this phase to go away, but it has been for so long, we are kinda use to it

I think all my kids balled their toes up when they were little but we are past that stage with all my kids Russell is like the rest of the family (except for Kevin), and he'd rather have his shoes OFF.

Didn't we talk about shoes off and on and buses, etc awhile ago??? LOL

Shoes..........um, bad subject. Sarah throws her shoes and socks off as soon as we get in the car. I am such a mean mommy that one very cold and frosty day, I made her walk to the house from our detached garage barefoot.

Putting tights on them works for a short time (at least it addresses the 'socks' part of the combination. ;D ) Our shoe/sock phase lasted until Angela was somewhere around 5.

I put tights on my son Tyler when he was a toddler. Having bare feet in the winter in MN isn't the best idea, and the tights worked out great!

Brook can't wear sneakers yet. I wish cuz there are some cute ones out there. She does have one pair of sandles w/ a velcro strap that are almost two sizes to big that she instantly figured out how to undo and throw off. (her shoes have to be that bigger because regular sneakers give her sore toes. owie ) I almost can't wait to have this not putting on shoes problem

Thongs or are they tongs? lolol you know FLIP FLOPS!!! ;D


I've tried getting him used to the idea of having that thing stuck in between his toes and he hates it...don't blame him.

have you ever had success with your kids actually wearing these?

Do you know.........Emily is sixteen and still hates thongs!!! She does have several pairs of "slides" (with only a band across the top of the foot and nothing in the back), but she just can't stand that thing between the toes. And LOL she has sort of a gap between her big toe and the first toe, so I'd think it would be even MORE comfy for her to wear them. But NO.

Maybe we SHOULD keep it at "flip flops".... I grew up calling them thongs and now we can't call them that anymore or people look at you wierd! Especially when talking about your 10 yr old son!

First of all, the tights thing made me laugh...whenever we put Damara in tights, she pulls on the toe part until they are stretched out about 2 feet from her foot and yet still in place at the top! It cracks me up!!!
The "thong" thing...damara's not crazy about that...she will put them on, but once she stands up, her starts to shake her feet to get them off! She just cannot stand them, too bad, cuz there are some adorable sandels out there...oh well, she does love the slip on water shoes! lives in them in the summer!!!

Angela HATES sandals of any type! If they're the kind you just slip your toes into, she can't wear them because her toes don't grip when she walks. (never realized a person needed that to wear flip-flops. LOL) The thong type (goes between the toe) she cannot wear either. Again, the gripping problem. I've never been able to find a pair of velcro type sandals that fit her right. Her feet are very narrow and they're all just way too wide for her. So, she's stuck in tennis shoes all the time. She has orthodics in them anyway so she wouldn't walk right in the other stuff anyway.

Last summer Sarah would tolerate wearing crocs. At least they were easy to put on when we were getting out of the car and she could do it herself. We probably have the most success when she is wearing her orthodics. I keep a blanket sleeper on her while we are home in the winter. At least her feet are covered.

A. ~ Walking outside barefoot in 20 degrees didn't bother Sarah in the least. It just made me feel horrible.
