Can't believe how choked up I feel. K, I'm Irish so the odds are I'm catholic - yes but for years I have been non-practising. I believe in God, I believe in good and I try to live a good life and I do pop in to the church now and again to pray in my own way, but don't go to Mass. So I didn't expect to feel this way. My Dad was 84 when he passed away last year, as was the pope - maybe that has something to do with it.
I didn't agree with a lot of John Paul II's teachings but nevertheless he was a powerful personality, a great advocate for World Peace and a very charismatic man. He was the only pope to visit Ireland (1979) - I was a teenager and can still recall the pure joy and love he emanated and the sense of elation he embued wherever he went and the sense that he was genuinely enjoying himself - the beautiful smile and mischievous eyes.
May he rest in peace...........
