Another woman and I found ourselves with 45 minutes to kill. We started talking about what we would do if we won a billion dollars (charitable giving was not allowed). We started talking about villas in Tuscany and services like chauffers. Then we started talking about all the potential problems with having a villa and a chauffer and the time it would take to solve them. This led us to a discussion of things you can count on to make you happy. Here are some of the things on our list.
1. A great cup of coffee sipped outside on a beautiful morning.
2. Christmas carols at a Christmas Eve service.
3. Uncontrollable laughter.
4. A great movie or book.
5. Dinner with good friends in front of a fire on a cold evening.
Would love to hear from others.

Sitting on a beach watching my kids playing in the sand and hearing the sound of the ocean.
Being able to slow down and spend time during my day with elderly patients who have very few visitors.
Hearing Emily talk to me about how she FEELS about something......doesn't happen often enough, but when it does, I'm thrilled!!
This stuff is really fun....but I'd love to just TRY to spend that billion bucks!!

Great topic MB!!!
Ok, things that make me happy....
My kids enjoying themselves! Especially when we're doing those simple little things together... baking and decorating cookies... flying kites.... rolling around in a pile of crunchy leaves ( which there are lots to rake up and have fun in this weekend!!!)....
A great big sloppy kiss and hug from any one of my kiddos... something that Alison is really getting into doing now!!!
The sound of crickets at night and those first birds in the morning!!!
Sitting on a beach at sunrise watching and listening to the waves breaking!!!
The smell of newly mowed grass ( at least until I start sneezing!!!)
You know, I could just go on and on!!!!

MB,
Wow...there are so many...
1. the sound of windchimes in the breeze 2. getting up before anyone else and spending some quiet time (with a good cup of coffee) before the hectic day begins 3. the sound of ocean waves coming ashore... 4. spending time alone with the hubby, away from the worries and cares we all have. 5. family gatherings 6. hearing the tree frogs in our back yard , telling us spring is here. 7. sipping a glass of wine while watching the sunset at Geneva-on-the-Lake...(in Ohio...on Lake Erie) 8. HEALTHY HAPPY KIDS... 9. reading the posts on Uno Mas, and realizing I'm not alone. 10. Having faith in God...its my anchor in times of good and bad.

What makes me happy? Mostly I am happy that I have been given the gift of finding beauty in every day. My father, who is dying of cancer, loves nature and loves learning. He gave me the gift of actually seeing the world around me, showed me how to take the time to stop and read those roadside markers, cherish the seasons and the sights, sounds and smells each one brings, and look at people as individuals- none of us is less worthy despite our outside appearances. A long time before he was sick, my family and I were just talking, and I asked what one word would you want on your tombstone- and my Dad said "optomist". What a gift-that makes me so happy .

Not to change the subject....lets keep this Things to Be Happy About thread going....
But...after reading Carolyns post...I want to post what keeps me going and ....has...for years. A poem I learned from my Grandmother. And when its my turn to EXIT this world....I have asked my kids to just put a concrete bench somewhere shady engraved with the word....LAUGH.
Jackie
Then Laugh
Build yourself a strong box, Fashion each part with care; When it's strong as your hand can make it, Put all your troubles in there; Hide there all thought of your failures, And each bitter cup that you quaff; Lock all your heartaches within it, Then sit on the lid and laugh.
Tell no one else its contents, Never its secrets share; When you've dropped in your care and worry Keep them forever there; Hide them from sight so completely That the world would never dream half; Fasten the box securely -- Then sit on the lid and laugh.

What makes me happy? My soon to be 9 year old, taking time and still willing to, stop, give me a hug and kiss and tell me he loves me. My 6 year old being as ohnery as can be and still as innocent. My 4yr old, Collin, giving the best cheek to cheek hugs. My 2yr old, wrapping her arms around my neck and letting everyone know only mommy will do. This list could go on and on and on..... Connie
