Their counter still doesn't seem acceptable to me. And to only "push in" UNTIL she transitions well is silly... just push in and that's that....why push in until she is comfy.. then change it to pull outs? SO silly!!!! Or am I understanding it wrong? My counter back would be if they only want to work with her for 20 min a day, then it needs to be EVERY day. Russell gets 150 minutes... and I think that equates to 30 min a day. If you think about a what? 6 hour school day, 30 min a day is nothing! It HAS to be daily and consistent for our kids. And again...I'd be asking then what, above and beyond, this IEP is the teacher and class doing to work on speech related tasks. That would be KEY for me to agree with ANYTHING they throw at me, at this point. I am thinking they could also survive with a 15 min consult if they really wanted to. Heck, Russell gets vision services in the form of a 10 min consult! A.

Connie....you are hysterical !! A.....I know I shouldn't be budging from daily.....it just seems so impossible....that is AMAZING that you have 150 minutes for Russell !! You are impressive !! I haven't answered them back yet..... too much other stuff on my mind....touring two schools today.......maybe if they are confident I am leaving district anyways.....maybe they'll agree to anything thinking I'm not gonna be here....what does it matter what we agree to ?

Well, truth be told.. I didn't ASK for the 150 minutes.. they always GAVE Russell that That is what his needs were! But when we moved to the new district, the old district was SURE they wouldn't keep those minutes.. but they did! You know what...if you are touring schools, are they still going to be in your current district or governed by your current district? Something to keep in mind, is that you may be re-doing your IEP once you change placement, so maybe it's something to think about fighting for once and if you DO change the placement instead? Food for thought!

Allisa ~ I don't know a thing about your area BUT here in Jersey even though Chris goes out of district to his school the district pays and is in charge of what services he gets. You may want to check that our in your area. Chris too got 150 min. a week speech girl from Preschool till just this year and I was the one to request less this year. I know you have lots going on girl with your school BUT it can be done I still say BS to any speech time for Erin being used with the Teach Thats just silly in all ways. BEST of LUCK and lets us know what you thought of the programs you toured today when you have time CC ~

I'm not trying to defend the SD but I know when Nic was younger we took what they gave us and also took him to private ST (ins coverered it). Nic's speech is very delayed. His expressive, that is. He has very good receptive skills. Last year the SD actually increased (their suggestion, not mine) his speech time. They also made it private, whereas before his other ST was in a small group setting. We are very lucky to be in a good SD.

I wonder who else is granting this SLP a 30-min-a-week consult with a teacher. She must be having tea with at least one teacher a day. I think that any amount of consult time "dedicated" to Erin, should be taped and transcripted - even if it ends up being only 10 minutes. I just can't see needing to have a consult EVERY week. Are her needs changing that often? I think a 15 minute, taped & transcripted consult once every 6-8 weeks (beginning and middle of semesters?) would be plenty, unless the SLP can show evidence of a need to change strategies more often than that. Does she have a communication folder so that you know what's going on with her therapies? I am thinking more and more that this is some kind of shell game - a bait-&-switch - or other sort of Enron-accounting scam.
Chris, too
