Just a little Emily story.............she scared me so bad today!!
We both had appointments at the dentist's office at the same time. Emily was having her Xrays and cleaning done by one hygienist, while another woman was doing mine. Emily finished just a few minutes before I did, and came over to tell me that she had no cavities. You know how it is in the dentist's chair.........all stretched out and "comfortable", and my eyes were closed. She then said something I didn't quite understand, and I didn't exactly ask for her to repeat it. A few minutes later, she left my side and I thought she was going back to the waiting room to wait for me. I wasn't at all worried that she would leave the dental office, etc. She has sat in that waiting room many times waiting on me, or one of her brothers many times.
THEN, she comes back to my side and says clearly "Mom, I started your car for you". I sat straight up and said "WHATTTTT" She smiled and said "Yes, with MY car keys". (No, she doesn't have a set of keys of her own............my keychain has a photo of her kissing a dolphin on it, so she refers to it as HER keys.) I really didn't believe for a second that she had really started the van, but decided it would be best to check it out...............I ran outside, (cute little bib intact around my neck) and immediately realized that my van WAS running, stereo blasting, and air conditioner full blast! ! ! ONE blessing was that she didn't lock the van as she came back into the office, and another is that she didn't touch the gear shift.
When I returned, the hygienist said "Wow............I couldn't believe how calmly you went outside to check on the van"!!! And really, I think I was so calm because I really didn't believe there was any way she had actually done it. She's always been my EASY child!
Several people talked to me about it when I got back into the building (after I discussed with Emily that starting the van for me was NOT appreciated), and we all decided.................Everyone had raved on and on when we first got to the dentist's office about how grown up Emily was, about how she had been going to this dentist since she was 3 and how they couldn't believe she was a teenager now, etc. I think she wanted to impress them all with the fact that she could do teenage things like driving, etc. I'm not excusing what she did, but I do think that's where her mind was at when she casually took my keys out of my purse and started the engine. No matter what she was thinking..............it SCARED me!!!!!
