Thursday is the day I am due to go into hospital for my first knee replacement. Have all the respite in place for the two boys which took a lot of doing but am happy with the arrangemens we have now. This morning I got a call to say my pre op tests show I have MRSA present in my nose so the op is postponed . I have to have oral antibiotics and also antibiotic cream up my nose, 48 hours after I have finished taking it I have to have a swab taken, then 48 hours after than other swab taken and finally 48 hours after that a third swab taken and if they come back clear the surgery will go ahead as soon as possible. 40% of the population have MRSA present in their nose but as Nicky also frequently has it around his gastrostomy site the doctor suspected I would have it too. Fortunately all the respite arrangement can just be put on hold until needed.

So two weeks to fret? Bummer. I am glad that respite arrangements are flexible, but still, more time to worry is no fun. {{{hugs}}}

Sorry to hear your surgery has been postponed that really is a bummer!!
My FIL, who is an anestheseologist, was placed in ICU in May. There they found out he had MRSA...but he did not have an infection only tested positive for it. The nurses seem to make more of a big deal out of it than the doctors. He went through a round of antibiotics and is now back to work.

Sorry about the postponement... but I firmly believe everything happens for a reason. (I know its not very comforting right now).

Awwww Pauline, I'm disappointed for you too!! I had a knee replacement last September, and I know all the preparations that have to be made (although I didn't have to make as many arrangements as you!), so I know it's frustrating for you. And, I know you just want to get the surgery and rehab behind you! Susan

Pauline,
I am sorry that they had to postpone your knee surgery. I am sure you don't like the waiting. I have heard of MRSA. Sorry if I misspelled that. We had that here in my area but not in town I live in. You will be in my prayers..........Debbie
