I think it is pretty atypical as their center of gravity is different then ours and our loves have to compensate to stabalize. I know Dani runs with her arms down and has to be reminded to put her arms up to run.
Great question.

Hey... I will tell you how we got Liv to stop locking her knees. A few times a day I would motor liv up our carpeted stairs left right left right till it came naturally. Also put her fav toy at the top as a motivator. I started doing it when Liv was about 22 months old and in a month and a half not only was she walking she also was bending her knees naturally. Almost like getting rid of a bad habit by practicing it a few times a day. She locked her knees CONSTANTLY prior to doing this so try it left right left right. We'd sing some goofball song and make it fun and she loved it. It really helped.(((HUGS))) Steff
p.s.in the beginning I started by first pushing her hips n thighs closer together thru pressure then after she managed to lose her froggy style we started with this. Worked so well.

P.S.S. BTW forgot to mention what you will be doing is helping her to crawl up the stairs bending each knee left right etc. It really really helped Liv lose the knee-lock.

Aren't there some kind of special pants/shorts/undies that are available to help with the hip thing??? Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong issue here! LOL
OMG, Jason is a thumper too! It's one of those things (kind of like when you really think about where your tongue is in your mouth - LOL) that doesn't bother me all the time, but when I focus in on how he sounds when he walks, it drives me batty!!!
Update on Jake - I was watching him last night and he is starting to bend his knees know - Yeah! However, he turns his right foot in and his toes are curled in too. Thinking I need to get him back into some good walking shoes instead of his summer sandals to help a little. Hopefully that will help.

Thats really interesting because William doesn't knee crawl, he bear walks on his feet and hands with locked knees, also when he walks with a push along thing his knees are locked too. I'm going to try the crawling up stairs thing, thats a great idea Lorraine
