Well, friends, I bought Rhienne another pair of glasses. I had just bought him a pair 4 weeks ago. Two weeks later, he broke them. Purposely. Again. So, I was gonna take them to Wal-Mart to have the frames replaced (they will do it free for 1 year), only I LOST THEM. Soooooo, I bought him another pair. This is pair number 30 or so (if you count the replacements). 30 PAIR OF GLASSES IN 4 1/2 YEARS. CAN ANYONE FEEL MY PAIN? ;D

Oh Kathleen! wow. That's alot of glasses! Do the opticians run when they see you coming? I sure don't have any insight but I am here to congratulate you and tell you what a WONDERFUL mother you are! But, you have helped me. Patrick is needing glasses and I just KNOW that I am in for trouble. So...its really great to hear about Walmarts replacement policy. Does Rhienne wear them...when hes not breaking them?

YIKES Kathleen, do you have eye glass insurance? Have to say we have been very lucky, Chris has the same two pairs we originally purchased when he was 4 or 5 and he now is 9. The lens have been changed but still use the original frames. I swear you can't break these frames they can be bent, twisted, even driven over by my car, honest, although I wouldn't reccomend it, LOL and they haven't broken. I do have to go back regularly for adjustments, as Chris can be hard on his glasses, but man oh man they were worth every penny. These frames are guaranted as long as you have them to be fixed or replaced if broken during normal wear and tear. Although what might be normal wear and tear in my household might not be what the company considers normal, LOLOL Good luck with pair #30 girl

Gee, you even beat us! I think that in the 5 years that Rickis been wearing glasses, we've gone through about 20 pairs. However, the attrition rate has lessened over the last year CONSIDERABLY. as she has learned that she needs them to see. [So maybe as your child gets older, nearer to Ricki's age, it will maybe get better???] ( No insurance here- I asked our optitrition why they don't have a plan like the airline's "frequent flyer.......) Anyone want to make a fortune by inventing a beeper to attach to glasses before they get lost? LOL iT CAN BE REALLY EXASPERATING Once we were on a family trip, and while boarding a train, Ricki showed me that they had fallen on the tracks. I couldn't get them then (unsafe), and I didn't want to delay our departure by even a half hour ( letting the siblings have fun was the whole purpose of this trip...). So I asked the steward to radio back to the station, and check the tracks as soon as we left. Well, the didn't find them, we didn't find them on our return, and we just swallowed another hundred dollars! I don't know if you are interested in any ideas, but here are some things I have found that help: 1) IMMEDIATELY on purchasing glasses, I type out very small our phone number and attach it to the legs of the frames, near the ear. This helps kind people return them if they get lost in the park, etc. 2) Often when Ricki used to go to the park with teenage volunteers, I sent her without the glasses. Now that she doesn't throw them away on purpose, I've stopped this (of course, I could only do this because she is far sighted, needing the glasses more for close work, and not so much out-of doors.) 3) I have two regular places for her glasses when she is not wearing them (2 on opposite sides of the house, in case I'm too busy to go all the way to her room). Everyone in the family knows that if they are seen elsewhere, they go here or there. 4) I clean her glasses often. When she's thrown them, its usually because they are dirty. 5) Try buying the more expensive thin glass lenses if your child has a big number. They are lighter, therefore more comfprtable, and thus less likely to be thrown 6) I always buy two pairs at a time, so I have one for Ricki to wear while we search for the first pair. 7) The first moment I see Ricki without the glasses, I ask her where they are- and she'll often show me! ((This last year) 8) I'm not above bribbing the siblings to hunt for missing pairs. 9) If the lens fell out (possibly at home), I'll sweep right away- many times I've found the missing lens. Get metal, not plastic frames, and buy the strongest. Hope it gets better soon!

Wow thats a lot with Ashlie and she has had them since she was 10 mos old we are on our 3rd and only becauser the first pair she outgrew and i always have a backup just in case, You need to check a SHOPKO do you have one of these?? I just got AShlie a pair called REFLEX 2000, They are very hard to break as you can roll them up in a ball, stretch out the arms and fold them in half and they pop back out to regular form, and if they happen to lose shape you stick them in your freezer for 15 mins and they return to normal, I think I payed around 120 for the frames alone but they were worth it, Let me know if you have a shopko, Love ya Heidi

SHEESH!!!!! Where can i get the indestructible ones!!!!!! ? I don't have a Shopki here Heidi. Wal-Mart is where I have been getting them because of their replacement policy. His last pair had been replaced probably,...........10 times just in that year. They were a very attractive plastic frame. This pair is wire. I have been really thinking about finding the kind that can be bent into all kinds of different shapes, though, because he snatches them off and then snaps em in two. With that kind of material, by the time he got them too outta shape, somebody would see what he is doing. And they would bend back into shape too? ;D ;D ;D ;D. Whatta concept!! Tricia, yes, Rhienne does wear them when he is not breaking them. He tends to touch them a lot, so they are constantly dirty. But he doesn't want you to take them off, so he knows he sees better, but I havent figured out what makes him break them. I know that they don't pay much attention to how clean they are at school, however, so maybe that is why. Lori and Justinsms0m - THAT AIN'T FUNNY!! They don't even ask me his name anymore........... Thanks for the tips Rickismom. I do believe I shall try em. Anything at this point. CC, I am gonna stop counting. It is getting depressing. lolol

I was at my regular eye doc yesterday and so asked them about children's glasses. They showed me a pair that twisted and all, not sure what they were called, but they didn't come small enough for Patrick (age 2 1/2), bummer

Oooookkkkkkkkk, does this make sense to anybody? I was trying to delete the second of the posts I did that show back to back. They both came up even though there was an error when i tried to post it the first time. It erased, so I re-wrote it, then when it posted, it posted both of them. Sooooo, I tried to delete the second one. I got an error message that said "the post you are trying to delete does not exist". HUH?? Well, since I can only delete my own post, and I had to hit "delete" inside THAT posting, how can I be trying to delete a non-existent post? Anybody remember that show called "Outer Limits" lololol
