By the way traci, they do understand timeout! My friend has a son who is 3 with DS and he is a handful and his mom started time outs with him at 2 and it took a little while (at first he LIKED) timeouts. But then he finally got it.
I am finding out that our little ones totally take advantage of us sometimes cuz they KNOW that we are just a little to sympathetic of them sometimes. Jameson gets me with the eating! everything else i do not let him get away with. But food time......boy he knows how to make me bend every time! ;D

Hey Cathy...where did you find the strap? I need one! Ashlyns Osh Kosh glasses came with one but she broke it of course...and I can't find one around town. Did you order it or did you get it from here eye doctor? We go to a new eye doctor next month...we fired the last quack! I am anxious to see what the new one suggests we do about her eyes! Traci

Traci,
The strap I have is just a black elastic strap that we picked up at shopko's optical center.... its ugly.. and I can adjust it small enough.. except it has one drawback.. if she tugs on her glasses hard enough it loosens up.. but knock on wood.. so far she is doing great with it!
Hugs, and let us know how the new Eye doc is!!!

Jameson just got his glasses friday. He has the kind that wrap around the ears. They told me they dont have straps for those kind of glasses. Is this true? I think my eye dr sales center sucks. I am going to a different one next time. His glasses costs $150 and they didnt even give me a lens wiper for them!! and all the lady kept saying was " he has no bridge, he has no bridge" I told her, " I KNOW HE HAS NO BRIDGE, so lets figure out how to keep them on!" stupid lady. tell me something i dont know!!!
Anyways, I am happy to say that Jameson has kept his glasses on the WHOLE time. I cant beleive it. I am afraid to send him to school with them tomorrow. Once or twice a day he will take them off. Do your kids have little marks on their nose where the glasses sit after you take them off? Do you think this hurts him?
Sorry for so many questions. Thanks for you answers!

Hi Monique, So glad to see you here! ;D That is good that Jameson keeps his glasses on. Do not worry, I think that at childcare they will watch him. About the glasses: we bought the straps separatly from the glasses and I do not think we needed them. How it is commom :"he has no bridge, he has no bridge". I am always mad at this too. They do not want to try to help, so they had found an exuse. I do not like that price for the kids glasses... Good luck with new glasses, new look, and better vision. Alice

Luckily Alice, my insurance paid for all of it but $25. The thing is though he is only covered for frames once every TWO years. So I decided I will get the nicest ones, and when he finally loses or breaks them, then Wal Mart here I come!!LOL!

Oh Monique.. I feel your pain!
Katie has those wrap around ear pieces too.. but the arms are too long.. so the wrap around doesn't fit her too well. I just bought one of the elastic black bands... tighten it as much as I can.. and pray. So far.. she does fairly well with them. The only problem, is that they loosen up..so I may have to sew them tighter.
That "no bridge" thing is a real pain. I am wondering if wire rims are the best option.. cuz those nose pieces seem to dig into her face when I tighten the strap. Grrr
WTG Jameson for keeping them on..t hey must be helping him! As for the marks on the nose.. LOL Iget them all the time from my glasses.. doesn't really hurt..
Hugs and let us know how things go!

Monique, just my thoughts BUT I don't think you should be seeing any red marks if the glasses fit properly. Chris has had them since he was 4, never used the straps and didn't get the wrap around the ear kind either. He has the regular medal wire frame type just sized for kids with the little plastic things that sit on the nose. He truly has never had any trouble keeping them on. They are the kind you can twist, bend, even drive over, which I have, LOL and if they break they are fixed for free as long as he has the glasses ;D We got two pair from the get go, big expense at first but worth it, so that he had a pair while I was spending the day looking for his other pair If you are seeing red marks from the glasses you may want to go back for proper fitting. Just a thought

Christie,
I know, but when i was getting them fitted the lady said that he will probabyly have little marks on his nose cuz "he has no bridge" blah blah. They did not sell the bendy kind there. I went to Vision works and they sell the bendy kind but not in size 36 which is what Jameson is. They only started at size 40 for kids. So this has been just a big pain the butt from the beginning. When I mentioned the plastic bridge you are talking about, the lady didnt even know what i was talking about. And this is supposed to be a doctor office who specialize in DS kids. LIke I said. I will be going elsewhere in the future.
I will try and get them better adjusted its just so far away. ..... the saga continues.

We're having the same problem with Aidan, Monique. The red marks Even after wearing his glasses for 2 minutes, he has red marks...maybe that is why he only wears them for 2 minutes then tears them off! I have had them adjusted time and again...but no such luck. And also, I can't get anyone to help me with the nose piece...I get the same thing...he has NO BRIDGE! Like we don't know that! I dunno what to do, either. Until his little face gets a bit bigger. Good luck! Staci

I can fully understand where you are comming from Kathleen. My son Patrick is 19 and has went thru numerous pairs of glasses. (to many to count) . The last eye doctor he was at said that Patrick is near sighted in one eye and far sighted in the other eye plus he has a lazy eye to. What gets me thou he made the comment that since Patrick is unable to read that there was no reason for him to have glasses. He said that Patrick can would really only needed them to read other than that he said Patrick didn't need them. But that I don't quite understand. To me with him being far sighted in one eye and near sighted in the other eye and with his lazy eye I would think he would need them. His eyes also jerk back and forth ,something to do with a nerve in the back of his eyes which has gotten better with age but still think he would do better with glasses.

Thats what he said and like you I think he is full of bs. The more I think about it the madder I get also so I told him "you say he doesn't need them, then tell me why he has to constantly squint to see anything" he couldn't answer that question so I was gonna let him check my eyes to until he told me that glasses wouldn't do Patrick anygood. Told him he needs to find another line of work cuz he sure isn't a very good eye doctor. Itold him he just lost alot of business and walked out and Patrick has another appt. for his eyes this month with another eye doctor. He needs glasses I know this and there is no doctor gonna tell me otherwise. I about slapped him when he told me they were unimportant just cuz he can't read.

Hi guys....hope alls well with you all. Just had to drop in and say that we picked up Patrick's glasses today. They say he is farsighted about +3.75 and +4.75 and have written the perscription for +1.00 less in each eye. Well, you could have knocked me over---the boy actually wore them almost all day!! I hope I don't jinx it by writing this. He took them off once in the car and I was looking in the floorboard for them and not seeing them, asked where his glasses were. He said, right there and pointed in the diaper bag and sure enough, thats where they sat! I am so proud of him. On the other hand I am aggravated with myself for putting this off for a year, cause if he is wearing them so well, he must really, really need them. I was just so sure he would have no part of them....all indications pointed that way....I am happy to be wrong. He screamed ... murder when they were ordered and again today when they fitted them. But, he wanted to play in the toy room at the eye docs so, I made the glasses the condition to go play. It worked but then I was stuck in the play room for over an hour! LOL
Oh, and Patrick has made up a new word, Nokay. If everything is not Okay....then it must be Nokay (and this must include the appropriate whine).
Goodnight
