I had this in health section but new developements have come about and I need some opinions fast. Anything else I sould ask for/ make sure they do. Brook is being sent in for her AAI xray test thing early b/c doc thinks she might have a pinched nerve or something in her armpit of all places She keeps pointing to her pit and signing owie w/ a pouty lip for like two weeks now so I took her in. They did rule out limpoma (sp) so that is good. I know to ask for Flexion, Extension and Neutral views. I wonder if she has to be VERY still?? Probally huh? What about this PAOD? (Posterior atlantodontiod distance) Ever have that done? Where they look through the mouth for a "front view". I wonder if little Brookie will have to do this again sence it's usually done at 3 yr old and she's only 2.4? So many questions and still waiting for the doc to find someone qualified. And that can pass the mommy question test LOL NEW This afternoon I'm up on moms roof and the doc calls to tell me the first person she was going to send me to didn't feel comfy to do the test. Well then duhh, Brook will not go there. She is sending me to Doernbeckers. Fine, I have to be there tomorrow anyway w/ Mary. I called the # she gave me and the secratary lady had never heard of the test. So she transfered me to another place and again, another lady had never heard of the test. Can you say freeking pi**ed momma. She did have the fax from the doc though for a C~Spine test. Same flipping thing right! Uggg. I wanted to talk to the person who will be preforming the actual test and she said she would have him call me back. No call. I will call up there in the am before I have to gather children to go and make sure he or she knows what they are doing. This test/xray is very important and i'm just NOT going to let any ol' joe blow do it. I will arm myself w/ what I know and a list I have off the computer and if I feel iffy about it i'll leave and find someone else. This turned into a vent didn't it? Oops, sorry. I'm just so frustrated w/ "doc's" not knowing stuff and you have to tell them how to do stuff. Why do I make min wage? LOL

The x-ray will be fine. Not to worry.
The armpit thing baffles me. I am really curious to see if anyone else has had armpit issues with their kiddo.

Not sure about this one, Jennifer. The armpit is full of lymph nodes, and when they get inflamed or swollen for any reason, they can feel painful and stiff when you raise your arm. Could be this? Might need an antibiotic? Just guessing here. I think you said they ruled out a lipoma? (fatty tumor) Let us know how it goes! ! !

Jenn - Jelani had the AAI xray and it was performed at his Orthopedist office...the results were given before we left. But I'll say, Jelani's former Pediatrician didn't know what AAI was! Meanwhile, I have a hunch it may infact be an infection like Susan said...and btw, I had this painful lump in my boob but kinda closer to my armpit...I freaked out and the doc gave me an antibiotic that cleared it right up. Sending good thoughts your way for tomorrow. XOXO to you and Brook!

Let us know how it goes!
Ethan's AAI films were done by someone who didn't know what they were doing. The docs at U of M later did a sedated MRI and some other films later to determine if he had AAI. The thing that makes these difficult is that children that small are not especially good (generally) at sitting still in the positions they want them to be in. Besides, it's a scary room, and scary looking equipment to a little kid!
We'll be thinking of you guys!

Thx girls. I'm just making myself sick w/ worry i know it. Hopefully all will be ok. I know Brook will not sit still, to much cool stuff I've really got to just go to sleep and trust the xray person. (and be right there to watch everything...LOL) It all started when I put her jamies on and she pointed to her pit and signed owie. Bad mommy me gave it a kiss and didn't think twice. Again she did it, and again, again. I took her shirt off and put some smelly lotion on it and changed her into a tank top. All that night and then about 5-6 times a day sence she does this. Got to believe her and so here we are. A couple days ago I googled "kids pain in armpit" or something and I DID NOT like what came up. I shouldn't of done that

Jenn, I sure hope everything comes out great and that they get every shot they need the 1st time. I know keeping Damara still for the X-rays was difficult...you would think they hurt! Please keep us informed, but I have to say that the armpit pain does sound like it could be a infection. Hope a round of antibiotics will do the trick@!!

Hiya...
Hmmm I know when Olivia had her aai tests they saw something suspicious so they sent her for an MRI. Due to her breathing n aspiration issues and the fact she would never have sat still in the mri they also sedated and intubated her for the procedure. I sat with her while they did the IV then left her when they were going to intubate her as I may have decked someone. I did leave em with a please get the intubation tube right the first time as I couldn't stay. With Liv the suspect was a bigger gap showing she had what her doctor referred to as spina bifida occulta which was good to know but her doc explained nothing to fret about. I guess perhaps she could have had spina bifida had it not closed when it did. The doc also pointed out that their is a slight hairy patch on the spot where the gap is and showed me. And he was right on about that. Weird the things our bodies do. Good luck and hope you can find out whats wrong. (((HUGS))) Steff

Just got the call from the tech and the radioligist (sp). They both said it threw them off when I asked about an AAI test. Not used to parents knowing the acronim for a c-spine test and esp parents not knowing what all three views were called. Hmmmm, ok. Well this momma does!! They assured me they have done this many times. Brook is going to be one of the youngest but they said all will be fine What a big worry wort I am Brooker with a spine xray and Mary with a jaw xray today. My kids are so photogenic... LOL

So it's picture day eh? I know, not funny.
I had a C-spine and it was quick. I hope little cutiepie Brook will stand still (assuming they'll xray same like mine)...Jelani's AAI xray was also standing...I took some toys and had to hold them up in the air and had it dancing so he'd watch looking up.
Let us know as soon as your back....Sending positive thoughts!

Well that sucked! Brook hated that. She screamed and cried the whole 5 minutes. They did "look up" xray and then "look down". Thats it. Hmmmm. I went behind the curtain afterward to get a sneek peek at the film and all the disc's look in place to the momma eye except the very top one. I'm not kiddin' it looked like it was at least 1/2 inch away from the next one. 1/2 my pinky finger. I measured So when I get home my sister calls says Dr had called. Already When I call back she'd already went home. So i'll sit and wait. Ugggg. I do have to say the two picture taker guys were just about the coolest I still can't figure out how in the world this is fixing her poor armpit Mary is doing fine Her 2 inch hole in her jaw is a bit more than 1/2 filled in w/ new bone

Well did they check her armpit at all? Are you supposed to return or are they referring her to an other doc? How long till the results are read by the radiologist? Sorry so many questions...I've been concerned about this. Good to know Mary's healing well!
ETA: I just checked my C-spine xrays from 3 years ago...the very top has a space and I wonder if that's normal???
Hoping the doc calls you first thing 2moro.

Jennifer, I am so sorry that I missed this one! But it does look like you had plenty of what I could have offered - moral support & encouragement. I do want to mention WTG for teaching her to sign!!!! Isn't it just too cool that she can now tell you about her owie? That is the most amazing part of this whole story, to me. But you are fantastic with the knowledge-loading you did - brave too (Googling "armpit pain" is gutsy, girl ). I'm proud of you & on tenterhooks waiting to find out what they've discovered. Did doc order a CBC in case it's infection?
