I think spirited political discussions are great as long as it remains political and not personal. We live in a country where there is freedom of speech and I think its just plain good citizenship to have passionate feelings one way or the other.
My hope is that whoever is elected will not further divide this country. In the past if your candidate did not get elected you did your dead level best to support him as the leader and then worked hard in the next elections change leadership if you still felt the same way. You also focused on policy and spent time contacting the people who could effect change despite their party. Now we elect someone and half the US spends the next four years trying to oust the leader. I grant you the media is the main cause for this...but we don't have to let the media rule us. We all have the power to change stations or turn the radio and tv off.
I do think that after the elections...whether Palin gets in or not...there will be a more intense focus on disability. How could she NOT do that...through this election she has become a spokesperson for disabilities in the future whether she wants to be or not. And, as to past records, I think we have to remember that intense interest in disabilities often comes from "walk a mile in my shoes" experiences.
I wish luck to all of you with the candidate of your choice and when this is all over I hope we ALL somehow win.
Jackie

Alice you said "Mark my words: If Obama wins we all will regret that very very much... It will be a beginning of the America's end... " NO it won't, and really what is the worse thing that could happen, we would regret it as much as so many regret Bush as they do now? it would be a GREAT day for America to have someone in office that pulls people together and not spread fear and hate like some others are doing There are 2 people running for President and if the one we want doesn't win you or me depending on who wins have another chance in 4 years to vote again. Thats one of the GREAT things about America CC ~

I'm just amazed at how many people are swept away by someone that has hardly any experience, didn't have the backbone to vote in the senate on many issues (he votes "present"...whats up with that?), a shadowy past, questionable associations, and claims to be able to fix all our problems...all because "he can"! I'm scared! p.s. and for the record, I am a life-long democrat. But I am also a realist...and when someone makes himself out to be a deity, watch out! Nobody is perfect. Nobody will be able to fix everything...just my two cents.

I'm pretty sure it wont end either. I remember when George Bush 1 was running against Clinton and a teacher I had at the time was saying how people are afraid of change sometimes change is way more scary than a bad situation we are already in. I think that's the case here and why so many people are afraid of Obama. He's different than anyone we've ever had the chance to vote for. Personally I am thrilled I can finally vote for someone I believe really will make a difference and not have another four years of what we've already had. I get chain emails everyday about Obama being the antichrist or a terrorist. My Grandfather has only voted once in his life and it was against Kennedy because he was catholic and he is voting this year against Obama. I remember a saying I heard years ago. If you always do what you've always done you will always get what you've always got. I am ready to vote proactive and hope that our failing system can be fixed.

First, what do we mean when we say "real change"? What is it that we want different? Can it be described? Is it the war issue?
I am very leary that either party would be able to accomplish what we as individuals hope for (and that is different for every person). We get our hopes up every four years because we think there will be change, but do things really change? When things go bad, we blame the president - what about all the legislators in Washington??? Hmmmm... I just don't see either party making much of a REAL difference - one that is truly noticeable.
JMHO...

IDEA is up for review in 2009. I have heard nothing of what the two canadates will do about that. Last night I caught a bit of Mcain on tv at a town hall meeting in PA. He coved alot of things but when someone asked the question about IDEA, he almost changed the subject in my opinion. Scary. What have they said about IDEA? Does anyone know?

i did go on his site under issues; disabilities, and there are plans in place on this. i have been wanting to add my opionions here but a song keeps playing in my head---lyrics like "i 'm not a very political man" i look at the big picture and see how the results of the past have trickled down to affect me personally and vote accordanlly(sp) i have always kept my political status the same though. my daughter has been out protesting( different for us) exciting to see the energy. i did want to add that this is historical campainge whatever the results turn out. anything is possible

Personally, I think the change we need is to have a 3rd party to vote for!!! This Democrat vs. Republican thing is why we can't ever change or move forward. Unfortunately, any other party that tries to run is usually a one-issue party and they get nowhere. I've voted Democrat and I've voted Republican in the past. I really don't want to vote for either candidate - neither is who I voted for in the primaries. I'm not completely Right and not completely Left, therefore I'm in quite the conundrum as to who should be in office. Is it over yet? . . . said in that annoying kid's voice when asking if we're there yet . . . ;D Jessie

"Change" could be something we do not want! Change could be for better or for worse... The only good change is the change we are creating. I am not sure we will like the changes Obama is going to bring for us... Radonna, hi! You wrote: "My Grandfather has only voted once in his life and it was against Kennedy because he was catholic and he is voting this year against Obama. I remember a saying I heard years ago. I am not a catholic, but I like your Grandpa! ;D 2. Lucky you, you have not seen the failing system! CC, I wish I am wrong... Lets see what life will show to us...

That is right... change doesn't happen JUST on a president's words... we have had MANY presidents BOTH Republican AND Dems that have promised things, only for them never to play out once in the White House.... It's not just a one or the other does that.. it happens.... and then sometimes they want something but the house/congress doesn't.. and visa versa.... BUT... that also is a safety so we don't have some rogue president... just because a president has certain ideals doesn't mean he/she will be able to change EVERYTHING... just because he/she wants to. As a democratic nation, it would be hard for one of our presidents to turn "dictator" on us.. they'd be impeached before that would ever happen Or something along those lines...... As much as it may be an imperfect system... it's more of a checks and balances system for that reason..... imperfections and all... that is why we are America Happy Voting Everyone!!!! Kevin and I are going BRIGHT and EARLY ;D A.
