I had to laugh, CC...............just as I read what you posted, a guy on ABC news said "Well, the fat lady hasn't sung YET, but she is certainly warming up". It's not technically over yet, is it? I want more than anything to come back here in a year or two and post that I was sooooooooo wrong about this election and that I'm as thrilled as you are tonight. Susan

I, too am happy with the results....this is the first election in a LONG time that I am excited for a new presdient, not because in the past "my" candidate had lost....because in the past, I wasn't excited about ANY candidates.....it was usually the lesser of two evils to me..... But I do believe we are in for a real exciting change......and NOT just because of the President, I think the past year and the rocky economic times have already made some of the changes.....and people are starting to prioritize and look at their lives. Figure out what is really important and stop the excessive spending and over-indulgence that permeated so much of everything..... okay.....little preachy for 7 Am......( sorry !) I better go get my coffee.....

I am glad that everyone is soo excited for change. I for one am TERRIFIED! I dont care if he is black, green, or purple, or white, he is dangerous. I have a feeling that we will all be in a fight for our freedom and all that is good and decent in this country. He thinks that all Americans should be equally paid, have the same insurance, and that we should give more of our hard earned money to people who do not contribute. That is socialism. We live in America, not Russia! We should have all the benefits from this country, IF we work for it! I for one dont think the gov. should have that much say. And I am not rich, by any means!! Its about principle! Sorry, I am going to make some people mad. But I feel that everyone else is saying what they want!

Tiffany & all other terrified people...... take a deep breath and look around....you are STILL in America......we all love this country and its freedom......why the use of the word terrified ? That is an amazingly strong word.....the bailout that the current administration just passed....that doesn't feel like socialism to you ? Did it terrify you ?
I'd like to see a link if you have one of Barack Obama saying that all people should be paid equal....I definitely missed that !! Does that mean I'm going to get his salary ? Because believe me, that would be an increase ! Or in fact are you referring to his stance that woman deserve equal pay for equal responsibility as men.....if a man and woman are doing the SAME job at the SAME company they deserve the SAME pay.....hmmm......no, that doesn't terrify me at all.....makes sense.....how is that terrifying or socialism ?
Health insurance....well.....that is obviously a huge issue.....and yes....I do believe that all Americans should have access to the same care.....do you think only the wealthy babies with DS should be able to have open heart surgery like my daughter did at 3 months.....or......do all babies with DS deserve that chance regardless of wether or not their parents just got laid off ? Is it okay that the elderly are deciding between heating their homes this winter or filling their prescriptions ? Can you hold out for the possiblity of a MIDDLE GROUND between indiffernece and entitlement.....meaning.....is it possble to ensure medical access for all and at the same time reward hard work and perserverance ? Are you terrified that we can't have both ? What is the "good and decent" that you refer to....what do you think is being stolen from you ? You are not making me mad.....you are FREE to express your opinions.....I just think that your reaction is surprisingly alarming and I don't see anything factual to back it up. I think McCain is a WONDERFUL guy.....and I wouldn't be terrified if he had won, disappointed would have been my emotion, BUT, I think both men are admirable and have a real desire to do best by our country, I just think Barack brings a differnent and unique perspective that gives him the fresh new change that we need.......

Yes. I DO have the right to my opinion, as do you. I think all you have to do is listen to ALL of Obama's speeches to see where I get my info. I dont think that our Founding Fathers thought that every person should be entitled to health insurance just because they are American. We must WORK!!!!!! for what we have! Now theres a concept! I feel that Obama is not a proud American. Just my opinion! He has changes that I am sure none of us know about. Big gov. has never been the solution. And no, I do not think the bailout was a good idea. What I think Obama is missing here, is that we are a great nation already! We do not need a "Savior" to help us. We already had one. He is just not my idea of a Pres. that will make changes for the better. I would have LOVED to see someone with my same values win the first black presidency. I can think of some African Americans that would have been great as president. Sorry to have offended you.

Tiffany, I'm not at all offended by your opinions.....I guess I didn't make that clear in my previous post.
But I would like to respond to a point you made about our founding fathers and health insurance.....yes.....you are correct, our founding fathers never thought anyone was entitled to health insurance....mainly because there was no health industry as we now know it today. There were no hospitals, clinics, research, procedures and medical breakthroughs as we know them today. And I'm not saying that either.....but....brining it back to a DS place since this is a DS site.....are not those two babies equally deserving of heart surgery ? As to wether or not Obama is a proud American....only he can answer that, I wouldn't presume to do that for him......but......serioulsy why is that a huge hang-up ? Let me put it this way, you are clearly unhappy about the election results.....would it be fair to say that you are not a proud American now becuase there is one thing about this country you are unhappy about ? You'd like to change the president elect....but.....I bet you still feel like a proud American. He wants to make some changes, too.....AND he feels like a proud American.....does proud American have to mean you agree 100 % with EVERYTHING American ? I think it is really misguided to say that Obama doesn't believe in working for what you have. Doesn't believe in hard work and perserverance. I've watched a lot of speeches, maybe not every single one he has given as you referenced above......and.....I recall many many speaking on hard work, dreams, goals, and effort......I don't recall any saying that he believes in laziness. I also agree with you that we are a great nation......and as such, I would think you would have more faith in this great nation and what it has collectively decided and at least hold out for the POSSIBLITY that our future isn't bleak and TERRIFYING.

Change is always scary.
I don't understand why healthcare for all freaks so many people out. I would have gladly given up my stimulus package to help people who can't help themselves. I would much rather have seen that money go to help an elderly couple that survives on less than a hundred dollars every month after their bills are payed than to AIG.
There are people that can't work. It isn't that they don't want to. Think about this when I go to the Doctor I pay a 20 dollar co pay. My insurance pays a percent of the bill usually up to 80 percent the other money is "discounted" or written off because I have insurance. Someone uninsured goes to the same Doctor and has to pay 140 dollars just to be seen. No "discounted rates" no write offs. Tests that are charged to my insurance hospitalization 800 dollar ambulance rides. I mean the cost of health care could be greatly reduced and Doctors, health care providers still make a profit. I believe children of McDonalds workers deserve the same treatment as children of the Governor of Alaska. That children of people on welfare deserve the same treatment. How can this be American the land of opportunity if some children are denied basic human rights.
Yes Tifany there was a savior and he instructed Nicodemus to give up all he had and take up the cross and follow me. Nicodemus was a wealthy man and Jesus asked him to give it all up and become a servant of man. He couldn't do it. Jesus was the ultimate socialist.
I don't believe Obama can work miracles but I do believe in the principles if there is a child hungry or in need somewhere in the world that it effects me. "Whatsoever ye do unto the least of these children you do unto me"

Must be a great country. We've just about survived 8 years of W. as President. And that after 4 years of his daddy before that. Well, had a little break in there. And I'd take Joe Biden over thingy Cheney (don't ya love the way his name comes out on ProBoards) any day. I hope Obama and his team can get things put back together and on the right track. But I don't think it's going to be easy. I wish him well. I wish all of us well. Hope one of the things he's successful at is getting people to recognize and emphasize what they've got in common instead of looking for things to drive us apart. Oh, and his wife is an alumna, but I'll try not to hold that against him. They've got a pair of cute girls. Hope they get a good puppy. And they all live happily ever after. -- Bob

I can see that everyone has a differing opinion than mine. All I can say is that I am very conservative and Obama goes against what i believe in. As for comparing him to Christ, I think that is blasphemous. I only said that because he himself referred to himself as THE SAVIOR. I dont know the link to find it, but I am sure if you look hard enough you can find it. I am done! This is not worth hurting feelings over. We are here because we all love someone with Ds, not because of our political views.

Tifany, My Momma is very conservative as is everyone in my family except my brother. Everyone is entitled to how they believe.
I was raised very strict pentecostal one thing I have learned about the world is that things don't have to fall apart because people disagree.
For the record I didn't compare him to christ. I just stated Jesus was the ultimate socialist (according to the bible)

Tiffany, although it may feel like everyone has a differing opinion then yours, trust me when I say not all members here voted for Obama or have the same views as those posting here. I am sure there are plenty on both sides of the fence, just some of us are more verbal then others.
Bob, thanks for the green light... I was hoping everyone could "get it out" so we could move on.. .but I think my cathartic way of thinking is backfiring LOL But I really wanted everyone to TRY to say what they were feeling so we could move past yesterday......
