hi all! sorry this is late, but today on the Doctors - here its on channel 2, CBS, they had a pretty good episode about raising a child w/ DS (amongst other things) the one dr on the show is Robert Sears - brother to Stephen who has DS, and his dad, also Dr Sears (the baby expert) I only watched a few minutes but TIVO'd it for later. for those on EST it may be too late, but others in the country should be able to see it.
If you get a chance, I'd check it out! laurie

I happen to DVR that show on a regular basis and it was great, John C Mcginnley made an appearance and really said some great things about the buddy walk. Very impressed by the way the topic was handled and the facts they shared. Jess

Oh darn!!!!! I missed it!!!!!!! please let me know what they discussed. You know before Noah was born we bought Dr. Sears wonderful book called" Christian Parenting and Child Care". I read about his family on the back of the book and saw he had a son with Ds. Thought nothing of it, then Noah was born and it was like God had really wanted us to have that book. It just was a connection.

i thought it was good to...so far no news of a re-run schedule but if i hear when it will be replayed i will let you know. If you go to www.thedoctorstv.com (i'm pretty sure thats the addy) there is a fairly good synopsis of the show. both the older Dr Sears (the dad of 19 year old Stephen w/ DS) and younger Dr. Sears (the brother of Stephen) were on the show as well as the mom of an adorable little boy and J. McGinley, who spoke about his own son and the buddy walk etc. They talked about "people first" language etc. And both Dr Sears said how its not a terrible thing (trying to get this across to new parents when they have to deliver a dx) but that its just a different thing. Earlier in the show, which I missed, they spoke about older women and the risks, etc. and how they didnt think it was right that many doctors encouraged termination (I'm paraphrasing) all in all pretty positive, although i wish Dr Sears used the word "typical" instead of "NORMAL" all the time :-)

It was very good. Extremely positive and so refreshing to see, especially from a medical standpoint.
