for moms of older kids...question.
Meghan has lost some of her teeth....they have almost come in no problem.
However, one of her top front and bottom teeth haven't come in yet and it seems like its been much longer than it should be.
SHe's had x-rays and the teeth are under there....
Can the 2nd set of teeth be delayed, like the baby teeth in kids w/ DS?
All of her baby teeth came in "on time" and in the "proper" order.
(I have to get her to the dentist and ask him but we're switching dentists and I kind of dreading asking the old one for her x-rays and records...I like the office but I found one that is closer and less expensive - and there are no pediatric dentists that take our insurance so the out of pocket $$ is just insane!!)
can anyone help me out here in the meantime?! thanks !

If you don't feel comfortable asking for the X-rays and records, then have the new Dentist office you are going to request them so that they have them before the appointment. Although you will still have to deal with the old one as I suspect you will have to sign a release so they can send the records KWIM?
As for the teeth coming in late yes it can happen late as it did for my Chris. If the X-rays show they are there I wouldn't worry as long as there is room for them to eventually pop out.
Best of Luck and really I wouldn't worry about switching or asking for the records. People switch all the time for many different reasons.

Sounds like CC gave you the answer. I sadly have no input, just wanted to say that I know how you feel. Noah just turned 1 and still not even 1 tooth. It has me a little worried.

It's not at all unusual for them to come in late for kids with DS, Laurie. The fact that you've had an x-ray and they showed up probably means that you don't have anything to worry about.
My daughter Victoria's (non-DS) front teeth took almost a YEAR to come in after the baby ones came out. Two of my sisters are dental hygienists, they had her biting down on the eraser of a pencil to stimulate the gum, and it seems they came in shortly after that!

Hi Laurie, I am going to PM you with the name of my dentist who is in Port Jeff. He handles special needs kids and is AWESOME. He takes most insturance plus even if he doesnt take yours i set him up with an association called the Grottos that have a fund just for dental work on children with Special Needs so WHATEVER your insurance doesnt cover.... Grotto covers. I have wrote about this a few years ago but thought i would do it again for anyone else interested. Maybe i will do a seperate post. Here is the website www.masonicinfo.com/dentistry.htmBasically a dentist has to be sponsered by the Grottos so i set my dentist up and now he can use this program for all his special needs patients. I use it all the time for my son. He had $3,000 worth of fillings, caps, etc when he was 3 and i didnt pay a dime. Now he is 8 and his baby teeth are starting to fall out and we will have to do some extensive work again but whatever my insurance doesnt pay for... Grotto does. Look for my PM. Monique P.s. hope you are doing well!! ;D
