Ummmm I believe so. I'll find out. I know the private preschool is only two days for the 3 yr olds too. 3 days for the 4 yr olds. Then kinder. Thats why I thought she needed *more*. I think well start there and see how it goes. As of now I go w/ her to Speach class/school. Like my sister said we should start w/ allowing Brook to be out of my sight for an hour or so to see how she does. Practice that this summer too. Brook has been glued to my hip 24/7 her entire life. Well I guess she did stay w/ my sisiter and sister-in-law for 12 hours while hubby had OHS and maybe a minute or two while I go to the store, thats it. Sister thinks we should start taking her to the farm to hang w/ her for a couple hours to teach her momma will always come back. Aggreed

See, this is the part about districts and their programs that truly bugs me..... there really isn't anything "individualized" about a program where ALL kids w/IEP's get the same 2 days.... technically it's based on your childs UNIQUE needs.... but your district will just tell you "Sorry, this is how we do it".... Bugs the you know what out of me LOL Let me know how the farm visits go... sounds like a good idea. I decided to work p/t (I was staying at home at this point) and put Reece in a school setting when she was two to start preparing her for being away from me.... she still doesn't like it and she is 8! Hmmm Man I am shocked how all districts are so different Here in our neck of the woods any child that is classified starts preschool in the public school the month they turn 3. Its offered 1/2 day for 5 days a week. For Chris I found that his pull outs for PT, OT and ST took so much away from the class time we requested he be put in both am and pm sessions. Was never done before but they were willing to give it a shot and my guy at 3 stopped taking naps so for him it worked perfect If you feel more time is needed you can always ask, just a thought it worked for us. I have learned that too. All districts are different. The same Fed and State laws apply but they sure do twist them up a bit. Could drive one nutz-o. I will call and get more info today. Just b/c I decided to allow this schedual for Brookster I feel I need to know the correct rules for my county. How am I spose to help other parents in my community if I don't know the anwser.

Oregon DOES NOT offer public preschool classes. Only kinder. One could send their child to a private preschool if their b-day is before sept 1 of that school year. If it is not, one must wait till the sept class starts that next year. How sad

Even if they wait until the next year, they'd only be 4 right? So, they only start kindy in the eyes of Oregon? Did someone show you that in writing??? That condradicts IDEA laws so I am still not buying it. LOL

I knew I shouda clarified...LOL. Oregon offers ECSE to Brook and anyone in ESD (EI). Preschool 2 days a week. They also have Head Start.(another more intergrated class for kids who are learning English) For both classes they have to be three yrs old before the start of the "school year" or they wait till that next sept. (It's coming back to me now the dealing w/ Mary in school) They are closed june july aug. She can go to ESD preschool and then on to kinder in reg school. Oregon does not have a free public, at the school preschool, in any of the counties I called. Thats what the private pay for it preschools are for. Now I remember why Mary didn't go to preschool, I was really broke back then... My conclusion: We are lucky. At least Brook can go to preschool. If she didn't have a disability i'd have to get a third job to pay for it. I should be Thankful and I am But: As much as I want to yell off the roof this injustice, i'm not there and prepared yet. I won't soon forget this and will plan a way to be heard. This stuff takes planing What about all the other "typical" kids who's parents can't afford $100-$200 bucks a month to give their kids a good start in school. What happens to those kiddo's?!!

Oh yes, thanks for clarifying..... LOL There are plenty of districts that don't have "public" preschool for typical kids. Yes, that is what private is for... but I was only talking about a child with an IEP. If a typical child needs preschool a parent pays for it... that is like that all over the US of A And Headstart isn't just for kids that are learning English Brook CAN go there too you know! They have to allow so many spots for kids w/IEP's... we looked into one for Russell. So... if these OR Districts "close" for summer, what DO they do about ESY? Because they can't just not offer it to children, like say Russell for instance, that qualify for it! They'd HAVE to accomodate them somehow! A.

Hmmm birth to three get there PT OT all year long (except vacations of corse) and 3-5 get preschool, come to find out, when the next school yr starts after they are three. No PT OT nothing for months...may june july aug, before the new school year started in sept, nothing?!?!!? I couldn't believe it myself. Thats why I got so pissy in the very first place. So I just said to myself, "self will just put her in preschool then"..thats where i ran accross the potty training thing and all this cow poop on my shoe, stuff....LOL I'm taking those months and ENJOYING them. Go somewhere fun and keep on keepin' on.... w/ no cookies She will be just fine w/ 4 months of no body bugging us I know mom will be...LOL Thanks for being there right now A No one but all you guys out here understand how stressful this can be. Just like I told my mom the other day, get me into the school system and all will be fine... getting there just might kill me

I did not want this to sound like Brook couldn't go here..... explaination....Head Start....another more intergrated class for kids who are learning English......
There are kids their who speak engilsh too but my only hesitation in adding both schools to her day when the time comes of corse is she will just be learning how to "do" real school why confuse her more by adding two more languages to the mix. Could be good for her, could confuse her... never know. I'm picking to get her used to school first. She will know the basics like her momma in all three languages spoken in this town and she'll be fine. (some schools require this for graduation)

Well, if your district is truly doing things that way with IEP's, I am surprised. They truly can't follow an IEP in all it's glory with "rules" like that... I am shocked they are getting a way with it. In the IEP it STATES a place JUST for ESY.. which is extended school year (READ those 3 summer months they claim they don't do anything about).
Glad you and your "self" are ok with all of this LOL.....

Oh believe me A, I realize that. For now, i'm chillin'. Isn't that what the cat does before she strikes the mouse...LMAO I know this is an injustice and a blessing all in one for *some* reason. I'll figure out why God put me here in this situation and i'm sure i'll prevail I think i'm being "tested" in some way like"what will *she* do about anything". Hmmm, haven't figured that out yet but wait till i do...LMAO Funny, my "self" wants to do lots of things but my "I" needs to think it through properly to make a difference. SOmetimes my "me" thinks before my "I" and "myself" and then there's just chaos Brook goes to her Speach Class/school tomorrow and i'm going to talk w/ Brooks friend "O's" momma and see what kind of responce she is getting now about this situation. Haven't seen her in a couple months. I'm curious as to what they are telling her. We'll see?. (the girls are almost the same age. O is 5 months older)

you all seem to know plenty....but.....I'm going to repeat that Brook should be starting school the DAY she turns 3.....Early Intervention ends on that day and public school begins....waiting until September should NOT be an option and not be allowed ! I've never heard of a school saying that the child must wait until the new year starts.....duh......what if you JUST MOVED ? Do you then have to wait until September to begin classes Woulnd't all the older kids love that thought !
