I learned my daughter had down syndrome at birth, just like you. I saw her face and immediately knew. At that moment, my life changed completely. I have felt every single emotion you described. The panic, the despair, the fear and anger. It took a long time before I felt any hope. Every emotion was founded, but in the end I became different because of my "special" child. For the better, I think.
I would love to talk with you about your baby, both to listen to you and to tell you of my experiences. If you would like to talk, send me a private message and I'll respond with my e-mail address and phone number. Best of luck to you ... you'll be in my thoughts.
(by the way ... this was me) I wish I'd known that my daughter would be so able. To clean her own room. To charm grown men. To plant the garden with me. To play dress-up with other little girls. To read and write. To be a friend that cares and shares. She is so able.
Jeni, mom to Joy Daisy (6 years)

Hi~ Just a quick note. Colin smiled at me today several times. YEAH!!! I am feeling better and better all the time about Colin having DS. It is a part of who he is but it does not define him.
Cheers, Kelly

There's nothing better than those first smiles. It was a huge relief to me that there really was a little person in there, and that he wasn't some little blob with no feelings who wouldn't interact with us like the awful geneticist made it sound. Those first smiles are just the beginning....it gets so much better from there!
