Hi! I did not know prenatally and my son was my first child, but I wanted to say welcome and try to say please don't worry (HA!). We all went through the initial days after the diagnosis and I think the majority here (myself definately included) have found that life with DS is not what we thought it would be. The baby's health is #1 priority, but after that, over time things really do fall into place. Good luck - hope everything goes wel for you!

You know, I have often wondered if Carter had CP because his legs were so stiff for so long. He seems to be doing a lot better now, but it took a long time to walk and fourpoint crawl. That he is doing better makes me think that it doesn't just go away and he doesn't have it, but I definately thought of it (and sometimes do with his speech seeming mroe slow than it should be), especially considering the circumstances surrounding his birth. Good luck to you!

Green or yellow drainage is not a good sign. Carter doesn't have tubes, but he just had his first ear infection and it progressed before we knew what was happening to a rupture! He has yellow coming out of his ear. It took three rounds of antibiotics to get rid of that thing! I finally bombarded him with the anti's, the anti ear drops he was first given and benadryl to get the congestion out. THEN he got better - WHEW!

A - why don't you listen to me? I have said Aquphor for years. Literally. I got a tub of it when I got that nasty bizzare rash all over my face in my first tri with Syd and that slathered all over my face was the only way I made it the two weeks between my doctor saying oh, don't use anything and his father (the other doc) seeing me and screaming in horror and me getting to the derm. I have the same tub and it's only 1/3 gone even though every night Carter gets his facial with it. We have been slacking alittle andhis face looks just as good. Dave said he must be lubed up ten layers down so we can skip a few days LOL!

Kokie, you might not mean to, but by saying that, you are starging something in a way. I never spoke against vitamins, because fi they work for you, that's great. They did not do anything noticable for Carter, but I think part of it is that he does nothave a lot of the things they are supposed to help. He has always had very good attention, apporpriate energy levels and is very present. I heard that all the time - oh, he'll be more "with it" but he was never not and without he isn't either, so maybe that is just a trait he did not inherit? He is also a very well kid - colds and such, but he actually gets over them faster and with less intensity than most kids we know and hasn't had so much as an ear infection. Maybe his immuity isn't low? On a DS growth chart he is way off the top for height and in roughly the 60% for weight. I am really tall for a chick and there are so tall thin ones on both sides of the family - maybe that's it? He has never shown a cognitive delay to date of more than 5%. Why? No idea. Maybe he has not gotten to the hard part yet. I am thinking that will suffer once they rely more and more on the speech he does not have, but we shall see. They are supposed to help their facial features...he and Syd and me all have the exact same profile with the swoopy nose bridge. Syd and I have a more pronounced brow bone, but we are DEFINATELY related! He does have epanthical folds - Syd has a small on on her left eye, same as me, and Carter has one on each eye, the left one more noticibly so. Again, can't deny me when I embarass him at teh mall in 10 or 12 years! Why these things help some and not others, I honestly do not know, but the vitamins did not make a difference. Maybe because I try to give him high anti-oxidant foods and a multi-vitamin every day and together they have a similar effect? That might be. I have no clue, but I 100% endorse them if they work, but for us, they unfortunately did not. I really wish they had, but it didn't work out that way for us.

I was thinking along Laurie's train of thought, althought not as detailed It seems if that were true, there would be no problems and I don't know one person who did vitamins that have continued them long term because they were such a miracle. Yes, this includes me! I did the Dr. Warner Hap Caps but when he dies we were moving and ran out and it was a mess, so we didnt' keep up with them or the other regime (flax and that other stuff that was $60 a bottle that went rancid in a month before it was 1/4 used up) and we see no difference in Carter - he is actually healthier without.

Sorry you are stressed! I have no personal experience wiht pre-cancerous skin cells, but a friend of mine does have them in her mouth. Her dentist found them and told her never, EVER smoke or she's in for it. Curiously enough, her mom was dx'd with oral and throat cancer earlier this year (never smoked) and it was really bad. Hmmm...now you have me thinking of calling her and telling her to go in and have those things taken OUT!

Just wanted to say that I have a dime sized spot in the middle of my scaple where I get something similar in the winter. I use a little head and shoulders and it clears up. I have often wondered if it's a stray patch of eczema.

We trianed both the kids from day one. Carter thought it was wonderful and generally went along with it. Nap times on schedule could be difficult at certain times for him, but you have to have the stomach to let them do a little crying it out and they do fine. Sydney, on the other hand, is 2 and just coming around the last few months to being a good routine sleeper. I did nothing differently, but I see where I did sometimes go get her when she fussed rather than letting her sort it out on her own because I didn't want her to wake Carter up. She was the wrold's crappiest sleeper for a l-o-n-g time. Several sleepless nights I was contemplating running away from home LOL!

Carter has had some issues, but I thought applesauce caused constipation? Fruit with pits like peaches helps keep it moving. Hmmm...you all know I am a big fan on papaya - runs right through! We have had C on a teaspoon (thought you coudl do a tablespoon+) of benefiber 1x a day to unfreak him out about pooping. The doctor said one painful poop for any kid could cause constipation since it is mainly a control issue aslong as they were stooling fine beofre (he was) so it coudl be toher things if it wasn' there from birth.

When Carter was on oxygen he would make these squeaking sounds sometimes. So much so that one of the nurses thought it was my rocking chair one day! jerk doctor was there and took it as an opportunity to tell meone more thing "wrong with him". Feel my love even now? Basically it's squeaky larnyx from dryness. Carter does get croupy now and i wonder if that's part of it (the oxygen and his vocal cords and how they were irritated) but I would never ask jerk face LOL! That might be it - worth a mention!

I am sorry he is going through so much, but what a great guy he sounds like! You are all an inspiration!
I heard the same about the crease and that coupled with his still unexplained missing amniotic fluid at the end made me frantic one day. I wound up taking him of a u/s which was fine, but it's best to be on top of things is what I say!

I have it! It really stinks, but the good news is that it does calm down after time. I have it on and off. It can be triggered by foods, stress, sickness, period time...but it can go away once you id the factors and eliminate them the best you can.

Becaky - I am glad you have a good doctor - makes a HUGE difference! That was interesting site - I read a lot of info I will be beinging up at his next doctor! Also, his DT said that she had a child have the surgery and was back in class the next day, so it really is a pretty quick thing from how it sounds - Good Luck!
