We tried to get the school board to pay at least some of the expenses, I guess it may be different here in Canada. Anyway we were told that because there was already a Special Ed worker there they wouldn't pay. But this worker already had 6 kids to take care of and Adam needed one on one assistance for everything.

No Adam went to a daycare form the age of 2 to 4 and 1/2 for 1/2 a day, 3 times a week. He was in a program called Scholl's Cool at the daycare for 2 years. This program initiates them for the routine of school. He may have been able to start school earlier but because he didn't walk until 5 and didn't sit until 3 and could not communicate at all until 4 we found it better for him to stay at the daycare with a one on one that we paid through our respite care allowance.

We are from a small town, so Adam started school at 5 but in a Jr and Sr. Kindergaten class mix. He stayed there for 2 years and this year he is 7 and going to grade 1 modified for 1/2 the day and back to Sr. Kindergaten for the afternoon. It seems to work fine for him at this point. He was always the oldest in the class but I don't think it mattered much to his peers.

We had the same problem with Adam. The fact that he was on pureed until he was 5 made a big diference in him liking new textures. One thing I found that if it looks nice he will eat it. ;D Like I will make a hard boiled egg for breakfast and cut it in 2 then add raisins for eyes and a nose. Or I will cut his sandwiches with cookie cutters in different sapes. I made him a pancake yesterday and put 2 1/2 stawberries for the eyes, 1 chocolate chip for a nose and whip cream for the mouth. He just loved it. Now it's trying to get him to eat what doesn't always look so pretty like in restaurants. ;D ;D ;D But at least at home he is trying new stuff. If he doesn't like it the first time I wait about a week and then re-introduce the food texture. Hope this helps a bit. Claire

We have seen bahavior specialist for Adam last year as he had started slapping the EA and us at home for no apparent reason. Basically if our face was arms lent we got it. It did help with the suggestions they gave. One thin e did not agree on was one of their suggestion "Let him do whatever he wants so he forgets about slapping" Tha!!! No way!!!! >:(This year he is 7 in grade 1 and really active, like running out of the class and not cooperating at all, so again the behavior team are being called in.

I didn't know they had long release Ritalin, I'll have to check that one out. My oldest son used Ritalin but that was 15 years ago. It made him a zombie during the day and he couldn't sleep at night so they took him off after 2 weeks. Thanks for letting me know I will speak to the doctoe about it.

Adam is 7 in grade one and I have deffenitely been told by his teacher and TA on several occasions that he is sooooo active. He runs out of the class room in seconds (and that is with a 100% TA supervision) They just can't keep up with him. He is the same at home. We had his thyroid checked and it is OK. I thought of talking to our doctor about imaybe ADHD, but am scared they will want him on Ritalin or something. Any suggestions appreciated here too.
