Anyone out there from KY? We live in Alexandria (right across from Cincinnati). Fortunately for us, after I quit work after Noah was born, he qualified for SSI (but barely...If my husband ever gets a raise we will probably make too much money) and we get Medicaid because of being eligible for SSI. We were told if not eligible for SSI that makes you not eligible for Medicaid. We also get WIC right now but only because Noah is eligible for the Mediciad. So we are borderline. Noah also has insurance through my husband but it's a wonderful 80/20 plan. AAGGHH!!

Hey Susan...I forgot to mention the outdoor pool as well which should definitely be open in July. I also think this hotel is in a great location...off the main road but still walking distance to a lot of stuff. We may be able to make it back down there in July...as of now we have no plans in that month. We usually vacation in June.
Good thing you guys are going there March 12-13 instead of weekend prior. There is a huge church conference for teens that weekend prior to when you are going. My husband and I used to chaperone teens to it. There's usually around 20,000 teens/chaperones there that weekend...whole area is a zoo from Knoxville to Gatlinsburg!!
I hope you and your family are doing well!

Hey Susan...Noah's mom here. I haven't been on here for almost a year. Was just looking around today and noticed this post. We go to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinsburg a couple of times a year...getting ready to go next weekend actually. Our favorite hotel down there has been Park Tower Inn in Pigeon Forge. They have very affordable rates, indoor pool and indoor lazy river which Kaitlan and Noah love, and they are very clean. My big thing is how clean the carpets are and they have very clean carpet. They also have a nice continental breakfast every morning so that's a plus for anyone on a budget! They are located behind the mall with the red roof...can't remember the name. The only down side for us is they do not have microwaves in each room. Some of htem have one and some don't. There is one located in each hallway though if you need to use one. But I do believe every room has a fridge. Just thought I'd let you know...Melinda

My son has a g-tube and has the nissen done. Both really were not an option for us. He was born with esophageal atresia (7 cm of his esophagus was missing), so had to have the g-tube placed for nutrition. They are very easy to maintain as long as you have a Mickey button. They're pretty flat on the tummy with no extensions hanging out. We've never had a problem with one.
He also had the Nissen done when he was about 18 months old. Once his esophagus was fixed, he was refluxing all the way into back of his mouth. We had it done and he recovered very quickly. He was unable to throw up for about 1-1.5 years. It has loosened up over time and he can throw up now, however reflux does not seem to be an issue with him, so I think he just needs the force to actually push things through when he throws up. I have heard some kids need to have the surgery repeated as they can come completely undone. I also have read there are partial and full Nissens, may want to discuss with your doctor which he will do. I believe Noah's was a complete.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me.

My son Noah got glasses about a year ago and unfortunately only wears them a few hours a day, like when we are playing together, dinner time, etc. Basically as long as one of us is beside him or in the same room he's fine with them. But once he's left alone for a second off they come. I tried a headband thing around the back of his head, but he can still get them off. Any suggestions? It's odd...he likes wearing them and even sometimes points to mine and signs on letting me know he wants his on. He usually gets excited after he gets them on I guess because he realizes he can see. But then like I said, the second someone looks away from him or leaves him alone, off they come. I thought maybe a velcro strap around the head would help but I have not been able to find one anywhere...anyone know where you can get one. I've check several optometrist offices, Ebay, etc. Thanks in advance! Melinda

Kathleen, My husband is a manager at the Florence, KY Wal-Mart. I'm not sure if they have an eyeglass center there or not, but I can ask him if they do and to check and see if they have the bendable frames for your little one. I saw where your closest Wal-Mart is in Cincinnati so I assume you are in the Greater Cincinnati area. We live in Northern KY.

I am so glad to hear that I'm not alone on this one....Noah's ears are sensitive as well. He hates the sound of clapping with a passion. It makes going to a church service very difficult. There is lots of crying and suctioning (he has a trach). I'm thankful for the trach because nobody can hear all of the crying. I put in a Barney in Concert video for him a few days ago and he couldn't stand it either because it had clapping. He also hates loud laughing. We just had his birthday party yesterday and it was awful. Anytime someone laughed he lost it. I'm glad to hear this will get better.
I have a neighbor with a 6 year old with DS. She also is very sensitive to sounds like thunder, basketball hitting the pavement, crying babies, vacuum cleaners, etc. I know this mom will be happy to hear that it gets better with age as well.
