He looks like such a little MAN in his flannel shirt. That color is perfect with his eyes. His daddy is pretty cute, too.

I caught our three-year-old playing one of her favorite games with Joshua . . . mimicking the funny faces her baby brother makes! Do you think most people would see this picture as our acceptance of our son, just the way he is . . . or would it look like we're making fun of him? We really love all of what we call his "Downy" characteristics . . . the cute little ears and the beautiful eyes . . . and we think his tongue is adorable. I like the pic, but I'm not sure if I want to put it where "just anyone" will see it, in case they might misunderstand. share.shutterfly.com/osi.jsp?i=EeANGTRkybuWrOfgP.S. We'll help him with tongue control a little later. It's still somewhat sore from the respirator tube.

Adorable children! I love the pic, even with your daughter's tongue showing. I just took a pic of Joshua with his tongue sticking out, 'cuz I think his tongue is CUTE! ;D Now, about those noodles and/or rice socks . . . do they go under the arms and across the chest? They wouldn't go OVER the arms, would them, because they need their arms to push up. Am I on the right track here?

We have had our other five "selectively" vaccinated. That means we've gotten them the shots where we think the risk of illness outweighs the risk of the shot. For instance, we have not had our children immunized against chicken pox, as the risk of the "new" vaccination outweighs the risk of a routine bout with chicken pox. With Joshua, we took a deep breath and are having him fully immunized. The reason is because, for him, the risk of ANY illness outweighs the risk of the vaccination. When making these kinds of decisions, you have to be careful what websites you visit. Don't base your decision on one person's anecdotal story. Look at broad studies, done by reliable sources. Good luck to your mom in deciding the best thing to do for your sweet little brother.

Joshua is ten weeks old now. He'll be having his VSD repaired on May 26. He seems so HEALTHY. He has been gaining weight (although he still weighs less than nine pounds). He smiles and coos. He bats at the toys that I hang above him. The only thing is that he gets pretty short of breath. The cardiologist said his VSD has "stretched" to 7 mm, so it is time to get it fixed. Who else's child has had this done and is there anything we should know? Anything you would have done differently? Any surprises we should be prepared for? Anything special to bring with us? (The hospital is a two-hour drive away and we'll be staying at a Ronald McDonald House.) Here's Joshua, playing with his toys. www.babiesonline.com/imagegallery/gallery_image.asp?p=%2Fbabies%2Fd%2Fdavenkelly%2F3808779%2Ejpg&be=d/davenkelly

Joshua was discharged from the hospital yesterday, following a VSD repair. The rest of our family stayed in a Ronald McDonald House across the street. I pretty much stayed with Joshua, except to take a quick shower, as he doesn't cry loudly enough for a nurse to hear him from the hallway. He's 3 1/2 months old now and weighs just nine pounds. He should grow more quickly now that his heart defect is repaired. Everything went great. It was hard to see Joshua so "out of it" the first few days, but now he acts like nothing ever happened. It was so nice to sleep in my own bed last night after spending so many nights in a reclining chair. Some of these pics are a little gruesome, so don't click if it will disturb you to see fresh surgical scars and lots of tubes. share.shutterfly.com/osi.jsp?i=EeANGTRkybuWrOXA

Guess what . . . Beth's dad didn't really die! They just wrote that into the movie to make it more dramatic. Here's a link to read about the real Beth's opinion of Rosie's portrayal of her, the real Rachel's opinion of the movie, and what things about the movie aren't accurate. Apparently their real father thinks it's hilarious that he's "dead". www.rachelsimon.com/moviefaqs.htmI do not believe I would care for Rosie's company in real life , but she is a spectacular actress. I was able to forget that it was Rosie in this movie.

I liked that commercial, too! I'd love to know that one of Joshua's sister will visit him in his own apartment like that some day. Here are some pictures of the real people the movie was about. www.rachelsimon.com/photos.htm

Welcome, Jenna. I'm fairly new here myself, since our son Joshua is only ten weeks old. www.babiesonline.com/babies/d/davenkelly/Paul is very handsome and sounds like a great guy. Love your signature line! (Our older children are all "ridiculously proud" of their baby brother, too.) I enjoyed your website, too. I've always wanted to "write something", but I've never followed through. At 45, and with five other children to compare him to, I knew within a couple of minutes of Joshua's birth that he had DS. We didn't mind at all. But it's always nice to "know" an adult, like your brother, who is doing so well.

Love it! I picture Joshua looking somewhat like that when he's older. :-)

If you want to get started before your book arrives, here is a neat site. I've been doing variations of the Sample Massage with Joshua. If you look at the third point at the top of the page, you'll see that Down syndrome is specifically mentioned. (You have to scroll way down for the sample massage.) www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A880670

;D ;D That would never happen to me. My plain, white, cotton underwear could easily be mistaken for a diaper! (I think I need to go shopping!) I have journal upon journal of cute things all the other kids have said or done, but Joshua doesn't do much more than sleep, nurse, and poop so far! (Well, he has displayed a pretty impressive "fountain" a time or two, but all boy babies do that.)

Congratulations Lauren and mom. (Love that name, by the way!) Edit: Hey, I just saw that you have a daughter named Faith. I have a Faith, too! (She's three.)
