Our other sons are circumcised. We tried to get Joshua circumcised when he was a newborn, but he was too small. I'd kind of like to have it done to help him care for his own hygeine when he's older, but I'm right there with you . . . I hate to put him "under" without a really good reason. His urologist said we have until he reaches puberty to decide.

HPV is sexually transmitted. A couple of my daughters are in the age bracket where this shot is recommended, but I'm not getting it for them because it's so new. It irritates me, though, that a doctor who recommends it for most patients would treat a girl with DS any differently. Who says she won't grow up and have a love life, just like most people?

The tear duct in Joshua's left eye is blocked. I'm glad to know other parents have this problem. None of our other children have had that. I hadn't heard about using Johnson's Baby Shampoo for that purpose. I do know that that brand has an anesthetic in it that keeps it from burning eyes. That's why it's "No More Tears". I'll bet any shampoo would work, but they recommend Johnson's to keep it from hurting. Just I disagreeumption, of course. I've been just massaging his tear duct every time I change his diaper (AFTER I wash my hands, of course ! ) Maybe I'll try some Johnson's.

Hi. I have home schooled all of our children from the start. I'll be home schooling Joshua, too, so I've researched curriculum for special needs quite a lot.
What level is he at? Is he ready to learn to read . . . reading already . . . or not ready for that yet? Does he know basic things like colors, shapes, numbers, and recognizing letters?
Also . . . what is his learning style? Does he need less paperwork and more hands-on stuff? Or does he do better with workbooks?
If you can answer some of the above questions, I can point you in the direction of some good curricula. There's too much to put it all here, so I'd rather choose a few that might be the best fit for your son.
Good luck! I hope you have the worst of the medical problems behind you.
P.S. If curriculum with a Christian slant is acceptable, Bob Jones University has adapted their preschool curriculum for special needs students. You can't get it out of their catalog. You must email the lady who did the adaptation. If you are interested, I can look up her email address.
