When Collin was first diagnosed with ADHD he was started on Ritalin 10mg and it worked amazingly. It worked so well that by the 2nd week we had put him on the ER form of Ritalin. However while that worked good it still did not last the entire school day for him.
We then went to Daytrana Patch. It worked GREAT but he had a reaction to the patch itself and it started peeling off his skin on his bottom.
Collin is currently taking 30mg of Vyvance a day. This also works GREAT. It controls his impulses and helps him focus while not getting rid of his personality.

A. I am so glad Russell is back on his Respirdol and it is working for you. We tried Collin on it last year in conjunction with his Aricept and man....it didn't work for him. Needless to say he is off both of those meds now. With the Respirdol he was so tired and kept having accidents (not just one but 4-5 a day while at school). Once he was off of it this all changed.

Hello all!!
It has been a while. I found Unomas when Collin was about 5 months and he just turned 11. Unomas is a God send!!
Collin is now in 3rd grade. He started Kindy when he was 6yo and completed 2 years of it, so that's why he is a bit older than most 3rd graders. He is currently struggling with going to school. He does not enjoy it...at all. Math is a challenge for him but...he does do it under protest. He is currently reading on about a 1st grade level.
While his studies aren't necessarily his strong point he does have very good social skills and is very independent.
Collin is diagnosed with ADHD and Hypothroidism and medically treated for both. While I am not a medicine person being on ADHD medicine is the right thing for him.
Just a quick update on my little man!!

I sent a letter when Collin was in Kindy and First Grade.
I think there is even a thread on it in the education forum.

Jennifer,
Collin is now 11 and it's funny how things have changed for me and him. Collin has very good hand writting but it was not always that way and especially at Brooks age.
All I can say is it will come...Collin needed time to mature and when he did...it was there.
Keep in mind even typical kiddo's don't always go into kindy writting their name, especially between the lines.
Hugs! Connie

Laura,
Collin has been on Synthroid now for about 3.5 years. They started him on it before his Thryroid went completely kaput. We just upped his synthroid in January. I just had him retested in March and now his TSH is really low (.028) but his Free T4 is normal so they just want to watch him. This really concerns me because he is now going the other way and hyperthroidism causes hyperactivity and troubles with sleeping and we do not need that at all!!
Good luck!! Connie

I've not read all the other responses but I have always been told those are guidelines. Actually medicine is prescribed by weight. My daughter is 8 but I only give her the tylenol dose (for example) for a 4-6 yo because she does not weigh enough for the next dosage. Hope this helps.

Picked up Collin to take him to ESY and finally saw a glimpse that he is starting to get a skill I have been trying to teach. He can read but he can't write simple sentences with the words he can read...some kind of wiring problem. We have been working on writing grocery lists but today on his Doodle Pro he wrote "I ton go" and said hey mom "I not going" He was so close to writing what he wanted me to know~~ I just wish I could have rewarded him and NOT made him go to school but...that would have defeated the purpose of ESY. I love even the littles break throughs!!!
