Hi and welcome to Unomas Malachi's mom. My name is Debbie. I am not a parent. I am a person who has Down syndrome. I am forty seven years old. I have had some difficulties in my life but considering what other people have to go through my life hasn't really been that bad. I just tell people I am a little slower to learn but, I can do it if they are patient. I have my weaknesses like everyone else. I am a high school graduate. I graduated with my class back in 1980. I am a poet and writer but, to be honest, I haven't really produced anything of late.
I like the name Malachi. It is a strong name besides being a biblical one.
I think you will enjoy this website...........Debbie

Jodi, You just never know when he starts wanting to be independent. It sounds like he is starting already. Can you really be prepared for that? I don't know. You never know when a child starts to develop and want to strike out on "doing their own thing." You have to consider how old they are I suppose. By the way, how old is Ryan?.............Debbie

This sounds very strange to me. You can't cure Down syndrome. You are born with it. This isn't something you can cure or change, however, you can improve on it. I get so tired of hearing this to be honest. I am actually proud to have Down syndrome. I am not ashamed! God blessed me with having this and I consider my Down syndrome a gift. If I didn't have Down syndrome I wouldn't have met so many good people or had the moments to educate them on what I have......Debbie

I am glad she is coming home Jackie. It will be nice to have two daughter's home along with your grandchildren. I know what she means about being alone at home while the home owners are out of town. It is a nice feeling!
I like Johnny Depp movies too........Debbie

I have been wearing glasses just about all of my life. I was nine or ten when I started wearing them. I used to wear those not so popular black frame glasses when I was a kid but as the years wore on I wore wire frames and then the colored plastic frames. They were always bigger than my nose bridge. I hated them of course! I now wear smaller frames and I love them! For the first time in a long time I can now say I truly like my glasses!..........Debbie

I wondered about that. I remember the one in Washington D.C. and the other one that was in Kansas a long time ago. It was in one hotel except for the teenager and adult conference. It wasn't that bad of a walk......Debbie

I know that we have already had a thread on this before, but, I was wondering if any of you are Carole King fans. I have Tapestry and I just love it! It has many good songs on it. I have this on my ipod. I do listen to the oldies alot. One song is my ultimate favorite, A Natural Woman besides the You've Got A Friend. Do any of you like her?..........Debbie

I like the "Tony, we have a situation up here" line. It is very funny but, not maybe to Emily. Vomit and I don't get along either. Quite gross..........Debbie

I watched Radio Flyer too. I didn't realize how long ago it was though. I really liked the movie. Was the oldest boy in that first dinasor movie? Sorry if I misspelled that. It was a big movie then. A guy thought he could make a big dinasor theme park and the dinaors turned on the people. Samuel L. Jackson was in it. It is a horror movie in some ways. Laura Dern was in it too. Do you know what I am talking about?..........Debbie

Pauline,
I am sorry that they had to postpone your knee surgery. I am sure you don't like the waiting. I have heard of MRSA. Sorry if I misspelled that. We had that here in my area but not in town I live in. You will be in my prayers..........Debbie
