We have a Dreamer Design Manhattan Lite Jogging stroller with a swivel front wheel that we love. Unfortunately, they are no longer in business! It holds up to 85 lbs and is much taller than any of the BOB strollers. I don't know if we just spoiled our child or if she really tires easily but we still use a stroller and Sarah is nine. Looks like we will have to bit the bullet and get a pushchair next time. Check this out www.happynursery.com/dreamer_design_manhattan_lite_jogging_stroller.htmChris

Laura,
Sarah became eligible for special ed services when she was evaluated at 5 weeks old. She was OHI because of her heart defect. By the time we had her three year evaluation, her heart had been repaired.
I teach elementary music and we happen to have two self-contained POHI classrooms in my school. There are 5-6 kids in each classroom with three parapros. Only one child is in a wheelchair. In my daughter's MoCI classroom, there are 15 children with one parapro. Most of the children in the POHI classroom also have a cognitive impairment. It is just about the numbers of adults per child that make POHI possibly a better placement.

Laura,
I hope I am not stepping on toes or being too nosy but how does Ethan quailfy as OHI? Sarah started out as OHI because of her heart defect but was changed to CI when she had her first three year evaluation. I always wondered if the OHI classification could have gotten her more services.
I know we are constantly struggling with minor health issues. She has had a productive cough for almost two years now. We have gone to two allergists, her pediatrician (of course), a pediatric pulmonologist, a pediatric ENT and tomorrow we are going to see a pediatric gastrointerologist. I teach in a school with three self-contained POHI classrooms. I can say my daughter has as many health issues as many of those kiddos.
Now on the other hand, thank God, she is relatively healthy.

Poor Kathleen! I hope they get figure out what is causing her pain. When I was a teenager, I would get horrible diarrhea, extremely painful menstrual cramps and sometimes vomiting as well. My back also felt like it would break in two. I use to just sit on the toilet and rock back and forth with a heating pad on my lower belly. It was a miserable time. Fortunately, these symptoms eased up over time but I still get cramps every month and I am 53! I have found that if I take Advil before my period starts, it helps keep the cramps under control. It is much harder to control the pain once it starts. If Kathleen is regular with her periods, this might help. Poor baby! Chris

My daughter is the class bully. She has always be slightly aggressive but this school year she has been downright mean! She hits, scratches, shoves, pulls hair, and has even bit this year. Wow! Not like my kid at all plus it is usually unprovoked. I went to pick her up from school one day and saw her walking out to her locker and hitting a child on the head when he had his back to her. Hopefully you will find a solution soon. Chris

Paigesmom, I am not ready for puberty!!! We are still trying to get her potty trained. I have no clue why she refuses to use the potty. Very, very frustrating. I also have no clue as to why she hits, spits, pulls hair, etc. She isn't angry when she does it to other kids. She just seems to like the reaction. Honestly, I wish we could rewind a few years. I think of fortunate as meaning something good has happened to a person. Less fortunate would mean something bad has happened. Hmm.......I certainly can see why you might be annoyed that someone called your child with Ds less fortunate but on the other hand, my child DOES have more challenges than a typical child. Just the health issues alone might make someone consider her less fortunate. She has to really struggle to do what comes naturally to many people.
Like others have said, I am sure this woman did not mean to offend you.

Welcome to Unomas! I found out Sarah would be born with Ds when I was 18 weeks pregnant. We knew she had an AV canal defect when I was 20 weeks pregnant. I also had gestational diabetes. Lots of info and doctor visits!
I wasn't expecting her to be such an easy newborn. She never cried and slept through the night at 3 weeks! ;D
Congratulations on your will be here before you know it little girl!

Congratulations, Jess! Seems like you just had your first baby. ;D
I opted not to use pain relieving drugs the first time. The second time I wanted an epiduaral asap! I must say that I did miss that euphoria that you get with a drug free delivery when I had Sarah.

Wow! I just clicked on this thread and didn't realize I had posted to it just over a year ago. Things certainly have changed in one year. My sweet child has turned into a monster. She is hitting, kicking, scratching, spitting, screaming. We have no idea what is going on with her. Why the heck does a child suddenly start having major behavior problems? We just had a Functional Behavior Assessment done on her and will be meeting on Thursday to go over the results and I am guessing we will be mapping out a behavior plan. Her physiatrist has already suggested that we may have to try meds for impulsivity. Gosh, I hope we come up with some answers soon. Chris
