We received 3 letters in the mail today. Letters 1 & 2 were telling Laura and Kelly about school registration. They are both excited, Laura loves school, and Kelly is excited about her first year of high school.
But the real bummer, I got MY back to school letter. I have to report August 11th, starting out with meetings. I have so enjoyed this summer, it has been so wonderful, but unfortunately, the end is coming. I can feel myself starting to worry about all I need to get done before August 11th. I'm not ready!!!!!!!!!!! I have been sleeping until 8 every morning. Okay, 9 every morning, but only since the girls have been in Alabama. Getting back in the routine will be so hard!!!
Of course, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Labor Day is a 3 day weekend!

Are you a teacher, too? I love summer and really don't want school to start. Sarah loves, loves, loves school but teaching is very stressful for me. I have been so relaxed this summer. I am sleeping well and found my mood is much better. It isn't that I don't love kids, it's just I don't love teaching 450 kids. I think the combination of me getting older and kids getting harder has made my job less enjoyable. For all the teachers who love their jobs, God bless you! I do my best for my students but my main duty has become crowd control instead of instilling the joy of learning in my kids. Chris

No Chris, I am the school nurse at our local elementary school. I admire teachers so much, even more after spending time with some of the kids in the health room. I always wonder what some are like all day in the classroom, when they might spend 20 minutes or so with me, and I am ready to climb the wall.
So the pressure isn't like the pressure on teachers. And there are times of day that I might not have any kids in the health room, it comes and goes. And I do like the job, just not ready for summer to end.

The student's first day is August 17th, and I believe the last day is around May 28th. There is a push to move the start date of school back to the day after Labor Day, so far in SC, the only accomplishment is that school can't start before the 3rd Monday in August. The push to move the school start date later is led by the tourism industry, they rely on students and teachers to work summer, and lose out when school starts earlier.
I made the move to school nursing a year and a half ago, after 25 + years working in adult ICU. I absolutely love it. The kids are great. But they learn quickly, you don't go home unless you are sick, and a tummy ache isn't sick. Nor is a runny nose. But, all in all it is fun, and not stressful, which is the type of change I needed.

I'm a teacher, too! Teachers go back on the 17th. First day for kids is Aug 24th. We do this so the semester ends at winter break. Last day of school will be June 3rd. For us who teach high school, it is great! Memorial Day followed by three days of finals and we're done!

Do not worry, you quickly get used to this routine and everything will be fine. If your children need help with their homework, and you have the wrong time, then there is a good way out. I know one service that helps to do homework Source maybe it will help you to have more free time to play with children or just to rest.
