This past week, Rhienne went on a canoeing trip with our local recreation department. It was a 5 day trip down the Little Miami River. I was a little anxious about how he would do, because he is truly a creature of habit. However, I decided that he needed to be stretched a bit. Turns out I need not have worried. His aide accompanied him, and they had a great time. Momo helped you out Kathleen with the pic Attachments:

I've learned that sometimes its good to force our kiddos to stretch a bit. It kills me, but Kaelyn usually discovers something new she loves! ha!

Thanks Momo!!
Well, let's just say that I had my moments of fretting over whether or not to actually let him go.........but in the end I decided to let him go. They have been doing these trips for 14 years, and they have established stops each day. The parents can go to those stops and spend time with the kids if they choose. Rhienne's aide had his cell phone and they called me each night. So...that was good.
It did stretch him. They slept in tents, at HeaterMeals, had no TV (translate - no SpongeBob) and in general did nothing the way they would have at home. Totally out of his comfort zone. He came back using words that he never has before and putting thoughts into words more fluently. Not great, not even close, but better than before. Soooo, all in all, I am quite happy that he went.
CC - My first reaction was "NO WAY!" But the staff are well acquainted with Rhienne and they really wanted him to go. So I decided to trust them.
BTW - another child with special needs went also. He and Rhienne are the first two children with special needs to make it through the whole trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She looks so happy, thanks for sharing such stunning pictures. Travelling and lil bit of extreme leisure always makes people happier, gives us more energy and motivation.
