Thanks for posting about the Hirschprungs disease. I am going to ask my pediatrition about that at Laura's well visit next month. She is constipated all the time. I give her either pears or peaches every day and she still gets constipated. The only thing that really works for her is prunes and sometimes I have to give them to her for 2 days in a row to work. Then it is back to constipation. She does seem to get some BM out without the prunes, but it is getting increasingly less frequent and very hard.

Here i go with the post lol My son Benjamin has never had a normal bowel movement since he was born and i have been very frustrated with his doctor i have been questining him at every visit (of course its a physcians assistant) and he was giving me home remedys to try and nothing worked. my doctor ordered him Malt Suflex and that was manufactored discontinued so now i am on a mission for something to help my little guy out. I am not worried about the frquecny but his bowel movements are VERy hard and VERY dark and he has a lot of discomfort when trying to go to the bathroom.

Although when she was very little we tried natural remedies and diet, Ava has been on Miralax forever; we spread the dosage out over the course of the day and it's the only way she doesn't wind up up with hard, painful BMs. Her 2yr Well Visit is coming up though, perhaps it's time we made sure there isn't more to this than 'low tone'. She just started walking, we're also hoping that the increased movement (no pun intended, lol) will help her get off the laxatives. She's finally eating a wide range of solid food too, but that hasn't helped yet. Does anyone know if the long term use of Miralax has any side effects??
