OK, guys, I am a regular COKEAHOLIC (ask Jello, LOL!). I will NOT drink Pepsi if Coke isn't available, seriously I'd rather drink water. Even when I'm watching what I eat, I still drink regular Coke. Someone told me years ago that if I drank diet Coke for a month, by the end of a month I wouldn't be able to stand the sweetness of regular Coke anymore. I gagged down Diet Coke every day for a month, and if anything, it tasted WORSE on the 30th day than it did on the first. BLAH! Never again.

I just wanted to defend overweight diet pop drinkers. No, we aren't idiots and we know that excess calories make a person overweight. We don't believe that a diet pop cancels french fry calories. I know that I learned to drink diet pop when I was dieting and was never able to go back to regular pop. Regular pop tastes like syrup and actually makes me thirstier. Maybe the overweight/diet pop connection has more to do with people like me who started drinking diet pop when they were already overweight and dieting.
BTW, Diet Dr Pepper is the best! I also love Diet A & W Rootbeer. Diet Coke will do when the others aren't available but I prefer water over Diet Pepsi.
Sarah will be 4 in September and we haven't allowed her to do much self feeding. She has had many feeding issues and I have concentrated on just getting her to eat rather than teaching her to feed herself. One of my goals for the summer is to get her totally off baby food. We were visiting my family in Texas for a couple of weeks this summer and Sarah just ate what her cousins were eating. I was amazed! My family hadn't been around Sarah in 2 1/2 years and just treated her like any other 3 year old. Can you believe she had her first ice cream cone while in Texas. She ate it like a pro and later kept dragging one of us to the freezer and signed ice cream.
Some days it seems that she would eat until her belly burst. I think she overeats when she is bored. We have just had to tell her no when she wants to eat and eat and eat.

I recently saw something on TV about the whole idea of diet sodas helping to make overweight people even MORE overweight. I'm not totally sure I buy it though, but I'm sure no expert at losing weight!! The rationale was that people who drink lots of diet sodas are conditioning their mouths for more and more SWEET tastes........which are NOT calorie free. It's not the diet soda that is the problem, but the fact that it makes you want more sweet stuff. (or so it was explained on TV) My reasoning behind drinking diet drinks (mostly tea sweetened with Splenda) is that I eat toooooo many calories in my food and don't need to add more with drinks. I'd rather have sugar free pink lemonade or water with lemons and Splenda than any of the diet soft drinks. I have always wanted to try that one month thing with Diet Coke, but it literally makes me gag to swallow it......can't imagine doing that for a whole month!
