Connie...is Collin in kindy or first? I know he & MM were born the same year -- atleast you have the aide. MM had one last year, but that was a primary school, only kindy & 1st grade, and it was a smaller place. I can't figure out how she'll ever return from the bathroom if she's allowed to go alone - or how she'll do in lunchroom, etc.
Her aide last year was great - she worked w/ kids w/ DS before and is on her way to becoming a teacher....i doubt we'll ever luck out like that...she knew how to handle MM, and knew when to back off, etc.
Let us know how everything goes!! laurie

Laurie, She may just surprise you, I know Collin has me!!! I had the same fears you do but (not that I'm pushing for it) Collin being put on meds for ADHD made the biggest difference for him in school. It helped a lot with impulsive behaviors but with saying that even being on the meds he did get STUCK in the URINAL once We have it written into his IEP that he be supervised in the hallways at all times but at the end of last year he was transitioning between the school bus, special ed, etc...all by himself and I was fine with that because it was typical 7 y.o. behavior. Now my big problem is getting the new staff (since we switched schools) to realize he can do these things on his own. Also written into his IEP is that he have a lap belt and sit behind the bus driver, neither of these things are happening but....that is ok because he is doing everything the other kids are doing and SUCCEEDING!!! He is being typical and not getting any special treatment and for me....that makes me very very ;D . Connie

Laurie....first things first.... take the left arm and wrap it around the right shoulder, now take the right arm and wrap it around the left shoulder and give yourself a big hug from me please. Ok...remember, MM's IEP is still good at this school district so if it says she gets an aide in the old one, they have to accomadate that and all the therapies listed in her old IEP still work for this school also until they either hold a new IEP or you do. Just hang in there and keep calling, remember how that squeaky wheel gets the grease and know I'll be thinking about you. hugs, Robin

Sheesh girl, I thought we were stressing at MY house! I think you have far more on your plate. It sounds like you have things well in hand, and just have to get through the next few weeks.
And Robin's right about the old IEP (of course, LOL!) so that should make things much easier. You probably need to give them a quick heads up that they need to find one for her in a hurry!!! Let us know how it goes! Hugs, Laura

i'm trying to remember if i was smart enough to put the aide in her IEP...and of course the d**ned school district is not calling me back - probably because they know exactly what i'm thinking. i called several times yesterday, and NOTHING... i'm giving them a little time today -- aside from being DH's b-day, I have to pack grandma up. For some reason she didnt understand that she was moving TOMORROW....and that we were moving this weekend...she's one of those "if i don't think about it, maybe it will just go away" types, lol
the district is probably freaking because MM's old IEP did up all her therapies to 5 a week (because they knew I was leaving, lol)....i'm just hoping we put the aide in there. I'm gonna call the old district now and see if they know.
thanks for the hug Robin....!! Lord knows i need it ;-)
thanks everyone! LAURIE
