Callum was our first and we did not know prenataly. It was a huge shock as I'd had a very normal pregnancy, ultrasounds in each trimester and the triple screen all of which had been normal.
As someone else said it helped that he was the first as we didn't have any siblings to compare him to. We just got on with it, celebrated the milestones, did the therapy and just enjoyed him. We knew we wanted more kids and also that we wanted them close together, so when Callum was 9 months old we started trying and got lucky first time around.
We decided that we would have more invasive prenatal testing and decided on a CVS. I just didn't want to go through the whole pregnancy not knowing and also didn't want a shock at the birth.
I love the age gap between my boys, they play together wonderfully and each have their own strengths and have helped each other develop.
I think we're done, not because of fears of DS but because of fears about what happens if the kids outnumber the adults!!!

I really LOVED hearing all your stories, and in each one I felt a connection to feelings that I have. Thanks as always for taking the time to help me. I definitely am not changing my mind on having kids! I love Noah and I agree that he is part of God's plan, regardless of what science and this selfish world tell us, that there lives are not worthy of even being brought iinto this world. I love how dannysmom said she is going to have to give this more thought and possibly start working on a sibling for Daniel = )
