Peggy the Iguana got me thinking.....not to mention Thomas Jefferson ( the cat, not the president) !! about pet names....what are some funny ones and WHY did our pets wind up with these names ? I don't have a picture of my cat saved on the computer....but will try to load one ASAP....so you can see him !! His name is Phantom....and if you COULD SEE HIM....you'd know why !! He is a black & white cat...his face is all white and has black covering one eye and almost half of face...he looks JUST like the Phantom of the Opera...... anyone else got some good names with a good story ?

Well Haley names all our pets - Cats are Lilo and Stitch(movie), former fish are Goldie, Sammi, Brownie, Rebecca Donaldson (full house) Zoe (zoe 101) current fish is Chelsea (zoe 101). We had a stray cat this summer take residence on our deck (after dad started feeding her and she was named Noni (Lilo's older sister in the movie) You guys getting the pattern of my tv obsessed child!!! She is even looking to rename some! Also loves to roll play and each morning will try to have ME be Mrs. Saunders (Kate's mom Lizzie McGuire) or Lisa (Sister Sister) and show her my home - as she is visiting for the weekend. ;D I must as she is ALWAYS very complimentary about our home decor! Most likely any new pets will be High School Musical names!

Well, all of our pets' names have been silly. When I was growing up my brother got to name our dogs . . . Bradshaw (he was a Steelers fan) and Lou (he was obsessed with weightlifting and idolized Lou Ferrigno). I had a big dopie black lab named Opie. Loved that dog.
I think our funniest one though was my nephew naming his fish Fog. He was very young and wanted a dog really, really, really bad. However, my sister & her husband substituted the dog with a fish, so . . . instead of getting a "Dog" he got a "Fog". I don't know, I guess it made sense in a little kid's mind!! LOL

Where to begin?!
We've got Peggy the iguana, because my husband thought she looked like a Peggy(?!)
Then Thomas Jefferson the black and white cat Cory named because Cory is sure he is super smart. We use to have Chester the cat who was a stray cat that my family found at Wal-Mart while the kids were eating Cheetos (chester is their advertising.)
We currently have Hannah the St. Bernard. When she walked up our driveway 5 years ago, "holy hannah" is what came out of my mouth. She was just going to stay with us on our hobby farm for a short time while her college student owner found somewhere other than an apartment to live. I wonder if she has found one yet?
My daughter went through a stage where everything was "Mary". She had a rabbit named Mary, a fish named Mary, a chick named Mary, and of course a lot of lambs named Mary.
We had a guinea pig named "Michael Jordan Snowangel" Cory and Gracie decided without a fight, so I'm not messing with that.
We lived on a hobby farm before we moved to KY. We had a small flock of fat, spoiled sheep. Lulu was the one who knew her name. We also had three goats named "Bud, Gus and Roy" because they acted like three little old men.
When I was growing up we had "Garby" the black lab that my Dad found in a garbage can.
I've always wanted to name a dog 'd.o.g' (spell it really fast, it sounds like a name). Someday, I'll have a d.o.g.
My 92 year old Grandma loves to tell the story to my kids that she and her sister named their dog "what". This was back in the day when girls were suppose to have superior manners, etc etc. So the sisters decided that "what" was perfect because adults asked them what the dogs name was they could reply "what" and not get into trouble for being sassy. They told their Mom and Dad it was spelled Watt, as in electricity. It was a sisterly bond that they never did tell their parents the story behind Watt.

Forgot one name that we were going to name a dog once, but decided on something else instead. My sister's bright idea was to name it "Riccola", so when we called the dog, we could be all dramatic like they are in the commercial yelling "Riiiiiicoooooooolaaaaa". LOL

We have a Beagle names Mistletoe (my husband and I named her so there wouldn't be fighting). Her middle name is Angel (my oldest picked that!). Yes, she was a Christmas present to the 4 kids.
We have a dead hamster buried in the backyard named Surfer Shark Clark.
I had a cat as a little girl named Molly Brown because I loved information on the Titantic.

Not too imaginative, but when we got a dog many years ago.......we looked in a baby name book!! We all wrote down our favorite names, and my name won : GINGER. (She had ginger colored ears). DH didn't tell us till much later that he loved that name because it was the name of his first girlfriend! Years later, long after poor Ginger passed on, we got a new dog.............and yep, we named her Ginger too!!
Ginger has just had 4 puppies. We've decided to let the new owners name them, or else we might have 4 more Gingers!!

I have a cat (well several) but one is named Picasso...not really interesting but I named her that because she's all different colors sort of like a Picasso painting. For the record - I give all of the fish "mob names" (Big Paulie, Little Paulie, Capone, etc)...dont ask me why and it's not because of the "swimming with the fishes" thing...although that's funny now that I think about it. I started with a big & little Paulie and it just went from there. Except for Spike the catfish (God rest his soul). I stopped naming them when we got like 20 all at once and couldn't really tell them all apart.
the other cats are (were) Taffy & Max. 3 of the others have no names..strays who live outside.
The dog is Quincy, because he's a Cairn terrier & Scottish, and that was the only close-to-Scottish sounding name I liked.
I used to have ferrets and gave them Oriental sounding names (Sen-Sen, Fay-Lo (don't kow how it's spelled but that's how it sounds in Chinese, and it means "fat boy" and he was a fat boy!!) -- the 3rd one was named Kashmir (after the Led Zepplin song) but I didn't name her....I adopted her from someone who couldn't keep her and that was the name she came with.

We have a little shuitzu named "Rizzo".....Even tho she's a girl, we thought this fit her well... when she's wet, she looks like a little drowned "rat" with really big "fly" eyes.(sounds beautiful, huh)....so her full "pedigree" name is: "RATSO RIZZO MCFLY".

We have a big orange cat named Bruce... real "tough guy" name...Hubby named him because he wanted to hear me out on the verandah calling "Bruuuuce, here Bruuuucey Bruce"...
The other cat is Smo-Joe...shortened from Smokey-Joe...Kids named him that because he is Grey...original hey!...not...
The Dog is Zack...the second dog named Zack we have had...
The bird is Jassper...nemed after our neighbors who gave him to us...they were Jess Angie, Sue and Shane so we took the first letter of each name and came up with Jassper...
The Chooks had names when they were tiny chicks, but as they have grown up they are just collectively known as "The Girls"...one though gets called SpeckleButt...sure you can guess why.
The sheep is called Woolly Shadow...(a); because she is woolly, (b); because she follows the dog around like a shadow.

My favorite pet name was a thingyer spaniel mix dog that Ed's family had when I first met him. They had a toy fox terrier named Brian...(nasty mean little tiny guy that hated me...LOL) and someone dropped this brown dog off on their doorstep. For a long time they had ...Brian and this guy they called..."the brown dog". Well after awhile the name stuck...and he became simply....BROWN DOG...
Unfortunately BROWN DOG got a new home after the weekend Eds family planted a row of Russian Olive trees like a hedge at the back of their yard and BD dug them all up and dragged them onto the porch!!!!

We've had the usual assortment of animals with the usual types of names..... Fluffy the cat....... Goldie the fish...... ya get the idea, right? My favorite one though was when we had this massive Great Dane - New Foundland mix...... I named her Iddy the Biddy. This dog could stand up and look a friend of mine who is 6 foot 8 directly in the eyes!!! A funny story from years ago...... my Uncle had just gotton a new Scottie pup and my cousin was telling everybody about the new member of the family. Whenever anybody would ask what the new dog's name was she woud very sweetly inform you "Anus"!!!! She got some comical reactions ( she was only about 5 or 6 years old at the time ). And while my Uncle has a very "unusual" sense of humor, the puppy was actually named Angus!!! He has a 12 foot long boa right now whose name is Julius. Wish he'd get rid of that thing though since I really want to go visit him but NO WAY I'm going while that thing is still alive! Barb BTW..... TAMMY..... what happened to Rosie the Snake? Noticed she wasn't in the lineup??? Does this mean it's almost safe for me to come and visit??? Ya know I don't do reptiles!! LOL
