gee, I can get all of these "vintage" candies at local grocery stores - saw the wax bottles & lick-m-aid last week at Meijer I think, or maybe Kroger. But not the waffle crackers, Jackie, sorry. I'd buy 'em and ship 'em down to you but I've never seen them at any time in my life. I'll have a look all the same. I can't think of any foods that are great but not around anymore. All the really good stuff just keeps being made - you know, Ding Dongs & Pop Tarts One thing I've recently discovered is really an old one: plantains - green ones, double fried. Yum, but fattening - starchy & fried. An occasional treat.

Jackie try www.hometownfavorites.com they may have them --they have ALL SORTS of great "vintage" food that is still made (not been sitting on the shelves for 20 years) that's where I get my favorite, non-PC candy CHOCOLATE BABIES...my QUISP cereal and my Jiffy frosting mixes. check that website out...awesome stuff. what I would really like to find are the good, real jelly sandwich cookies, the ones that were flower shaped w/ the hole in the middle. oh and I also get those raisin cookie bars on that website, or one other....remember those? the real thin long cookies that had mashed up raisins in it? YUM! (Jackie, not fair to do this to a pregnant woman....I may need to place a rush order!) also "Otter pops" those frozen pops in plastic tubes (I know they still make them under other names, but otter pops were my favorite)

Strange how my vintage foods are sweets I used to love the chocolate cakes that were covered with the pink gooey stuff and coconut. Yummmmmmmm. And the banana flavored cakes shaped sort of like a taco with banana cream filling in them. Another yummmmmmmmmm. Sharon

Those pink cupcakes were Hostess Snowballs...I never liked them but was fascinated by that sort of marshmallow layer you could peel off the choc cake inside...LOL
Anyone ever like Hydrox cookies...so much better than Oreos!

Sharon, those banana cake tacos were called Banana Flips in Texas and I loved them! Hydrox cookies seems to be crisper than Oreos. Hmmm............I guess I'm not too picky because I would be happy eating an entire row of either brand! I started looking at the website that Laurie posted and suddenly I remembered two more canned meat products, potted meat and deviled ham. My mother fed us all that gross stuff. My kids have no idea how much better they have it! I just don't buy anything in a can except tomato sauce or paste. Chris

LOL...Deviled Ham is NOT gross... ;D I actually had a deviled ham sandwich for lunch today.
But...it was so much better when my mom would make it on one of those long handled sandwich presses. She used to butter the inside of the press...put in a sandwich...pbj, cheese, deviled ham..etc...then rest each side at a time on the burner. It came out crisp and sealed with the filing inside....hadnt thought about that in years.

Laurie, I have a great recipe for jelly-filled sandwich cookies with a hole in the top cookie. They also have a smear of chocolate on the bottom cookie. They are called lintzer cookies. If you want the recipe, let me know. We've gotta take care of our pregnant moms

Snowballs and Banana Flips, think I may have to do some looking around this weekend.
I remember eating fried Spam sandwiches, and I loved the deviled ham. When I really want to be taken back to my childhood, right before I visit my Mom I ask her to make either hamhocks and lima beans or split pea soup. Just like being wrapped in a warm blanket, pure comfort.

Did any of you grow up in the day when there were still toys in cereal boxes? Our mom always toldl us "not to dig"...that it would come out when we got to it...sureeeeeeeeeeeeee...LOL.
With four of us there was constant fighting when she wasn't looking and I have fond memories of watching my younger sister usually be the one who was caught with her arm inside the box...LOL.
I also remember us eating Rice Krispies and when mom wasnt looking...taking the sugar (out of a real sugar bowl...LOL) and just pouring it on...cuz it would sink to the bottom and she couldnt tell we had done it. But ooohhhh so good to pull up a spoonful of forbidden sugar and milk!

Jackie, once again you are causing memories to come flooding back. I remember the toys in the cereal boxes. I have four sisters so it was a big deal to be the one who got the toy. I also remember being excited about getting to eat Lucky Charms for breakfast, pouring the cereal in the bowl and all the marshmallows were gone! It happened all the time. Those dang sisters!!! We also emptied the sugar bowl when we ate cereal. My older daughter has never even been allowed to try sugar on her cereal although she does put on a ton of honey. Chris

Well Tammy...come to Amarillo...I can buy good fondue cheeses at my local supermarket. We have a cute pot we bought years ago in Switzerland ...while living in Europe! We also have a chain of good fondue restaurants called The Melting Pot...although not one in our town. Jackie Found this thread following the word "Europe" and "trip" Fondue is really popular in Europe, especially in Switzerland (it is a country of it's origin), France and may be Belgium I guess. When I visited these countries, almost every food near me service suggested me to pick fondue.
