I thought I would post on here for those interested in transitioning in to Kindergarten. I am not wanting to scare anyone!!!!
I'm going to give the really short version.
First, Collins evaluation that the school did in March shows Collin at a Mild to Moderate range. The school wanted to lable him as moderate for "funding" reasons and I said that was fine as long as they did not try and put him in a Moderate program. That program happens to not be at our home school and is really not for Collin.
Second, they tell me Collin can not go to Kindergarten then to the resource room and stay all day. They will only offer him Kindergarten in the afternoon with pull out of 1 hour a day in the resource room. They say this is because we do not have "Title One" monies at this school. We do have "title one" monies at another school for a mild program but since he is not in that district they will not let him attend. They left me to believe the only other option was the moderate program. Which is not an option PERIOD!!! They want the funds that come with a Moderate label but they did not even want to give him the correct Mild program. I didn't even ask for a one on one aid because our school is so small in the resource room it would be like a 1:4 ratio.
Lets just say I walked out of there and refused to sign anything.
I called a friend of mine who teaches special ed in High school and she called the director at home and told her she really screwed this up and she will be at the next meeting.
Man....I'm to tired and exhausted to complete this post so I will give more details tomorrow.
Night all,
