Sounds like the school really has a good plan for Danny. I wish our district had something like that when Alison was that age. I had felt she wasn't quite ready for Kindergarten but we don't have anything like that in our district. She's done well but I really think that an extra year of pre-K would really have benefited her in the long run.
Danny sounds so much like Alison - she's also quite the charmer and social butterfly and can be very stubborn when you try to get her to do things that aren't on HER agenda!!! Fortunately her teachers have found lots of ways to make her think things are really her idea so they ultimately get her to do the work they want done.
I'm sure he'll do wonderfully next year and then just totally wow them when he get to Kindergarten!

Okay, maybe I'm just a Jodi-junkie but I just loved this latest book. It's about an 18 yr old boy w/Asperger's. The story involves lots of musing by his younger brother that really got me thinking about what Alison's sisters might be thinking about their life with a sibling with special needs. An awful lot of the mother's thoughts and feelings were similar to some of my own. It really went into what it must be like to be on the Autism Spectrum.
Anybody else reading this one?

We took Alison to Disney last June and would definitely recommend the Princess lunch/dinner at Epcot, Norway! If Joy is into the Princesses it's a must do. You get a nice souvenier picture, Alison's was with Belle. Belle, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty ( whose name we learned from some little 3 yr old is Aurora), Cinderella, and Arrielle all come to the tables while you're eating. Alison was in her glory! We also did the Crystal Palace one with Winnie the Pooh and Friends which was great too.
Definitely get the guest pass..... was no hassle at all, just had to explain that she tires very quickly and needed the stroller for standing in long lines...... saved us HOURS waiting in lines and got us a great seating at things like the Playhouse Disney show, the fireworks at MGM Studios, the parades ( there were special areas for wheelchair/strollers). One of the best things was no waiting to get on Soaring at Epcot...... downside was made it way too easy to go on the Flying Dumbos 25 times in row since we didn't wait any more than a ride or so inbetween!!!
Have a great time and we'll be looking to pics!
Barb
PS... Alison would be more than happy to go with you guys so that Joy has a little buddy for all the rides!!!

I read this back in the summer... very intense topic but I enjoyed (not sure that's the right word, KWIM?) it immensely! Currently reading "The Day the Falls Stood Still" by Cathy Marie Buchanan. It's a love story set in 1915 Niagara Falls, Ontario. It's fun reading about places I know well!

Love it!!! Short and to the point!
Alison's list is also very short this year...... paperclips!!! Yup, paper clips! I think Santa can fulfill this one wish....
Now, if I could only get her sister Sarah to do some editing of her wishlist....... pony, digital camera, iPhone, laptop, gift cards for Abercrombie, Hollister, American Eagle, Kate Spade, Coach, ect, ect, ect........ Sure Sarah, no problem, let me just take a second mortgage out on the house!!!
Hope everyone is having fun finding those extra special surprise gifts!

Alison is participating in a study on "Humoral Innumodeficiency in Pediatric DS" being conducted by docs here at Childrens Hospital and Univ of Buffalo med school. Got her blood work results in the mail today and after speaking w/ one of the docs involved today all I can say is..... hmmm... interesting.
They looked at several things but one thing the doc did say they are noticing is that kids who have participated seem to have low antibody levels to Sptrep Pneumoniae bacteria which causes the majority of ear infections, sinusitis and penumonias. They look at 12 different antibody leves and in Alison's case only 1 of those was at a protective level. Because Alison has recurrent sinus infections and has had pneumonia several times, they suggested giving her boosters for Pneumovax and Prevnar, testing her antibody levels again about 6 weeks later to see how she responds. Not sure what they'll do then if her levels don't improve but should be "interesting" to see. The doc did say that she "doesn't have a dx of immunodeficiency" because a bunch of the other tests that they did were with in normal limits - just these specific antibodies were low.
Something for us all to think about at this time of year.... I'll let y'all know what happens w/the post-vaccine levels.....

Has anybody heard or seen anything about this show? Alison just loves the monkey and I was thinking about getting tickets for her for Christmas - it's in Buffalo in mid-January?
