i belong to a group on myspace, and on the bulletin was a post from a young girl whos brother has d.s. she says that her mother starves him and makes him live in a trashcan outside,,at first i was angry that someone would make up such a horrible story, but then i got to thinking of the d.s. man when i was a kid that the police found his family had chained him outside,,, so if this story is true we need to contact myspace, and the authorities, i have tried to contact myspace, and other group members and as yet have recieved no reply,, so here is the link to her bulletin, the group name is support group for siblings of siblings with down syndrome the group url is izabella with the appropriate slash marks here is the url for the bulletin bulletins.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=bulletin.read&messageID=10389148&groupID=100949758&Mytoken=95038E9C-DE16-40C7-BD97532F95ADDCF852818245

my wife was thirty when she got the chicken pox, it was terrible, anyone that has had the chicken pox can under certain conditions develope shingles, which are horrible blisters that can cover your entire body, sometimes they go away some times as in my mothers case u can have them the rest of ur life, also chicken pox on your ear drum or in your eyes can cause permanent deafness or blindness, oh yeah u can die from the chicken pox too,,,, chicken pox are bad shingles are worse,,, they are agony !! if u are immunized hey .. you probably wont get them or shingles.......... you can decide not to immunize your kids but remember when your kid gets sick it might be somebody elses kid that catches it from your child , there is a reason there is no longer small pox in the world, it took cooperation from every (EVERY) nation in the world, that is the first time ever in the history of man that every nation on earth did something together,, although because hindus worship a goddess of smallpox the government had to forcibly immunize some of the adherents of that goddess..(smallpox in a person was thought to be a sign of blessing from the goddess) in idaho and in most states there is a little known secret that the state likes to keep secret, you can opt out and not have your child immunized because of religious or OTHER reasons,, i believe in immunization, but i couldnt stand being lied to by the school nurse and principal when they told me i HAD to get my children immunized, i called them on it and made them admit that they couldnt make me get my kids immunized... but i did have to sign a waiver..... though there has been no conclusive link between immunization and SIDS it doesnt take a brain surgeon to realize that a. giving your infant a infection , may have adverse side affects, and b. the government sometimes lies to you to affect their own agenda,

victoria likes the show cops so she puts "hand cuffs" on her dolls or sometimes she starts yellin at me and makes me put my hands behind my back then she searches me one day the kids next door were actin up and i had to call the cops and when it was over victoria pretended to put cuffs on me , search me, and she put me in the police car and slammed the door all the time giving me a lecture,, the cops were rolling .... every since she was little she liked to play with a wash cloth hours and hours she wipes things she folds it , unfolds it , covers things , puts it on her head , hours and hours

victoria has a discipline problem or maybe its me with the problem.........she does exactly what she wants , totally ignoring anything i have to say, sometimes i can redirect her and then get her to do what i want, sometimes its her two favorite phrases GO AWAY! AND NO WAY! in that order repeated over and over,, she minds at grandmas and at school,, i have four other children that are well disciplined (except that three of them are teen agers) im sure i dint train victoria like i did them, to tell you the truth i dint know how to discipline victoria, stubborness runs in my family and having ds is like a double helping of stubborness... time outs dont work , spanking doesnt work, redirecting only works sometimes, i know that she never gets enough sleep, and in the morning sometimes she s a real terror, sometimes shes an angel,,, this is the most fustrating thing i have to deal with with victoria

funny thought, this post is really interesting , and enlightening, too bad the only ones that will read it are people with family with ds......... dialogue like this should be somewhere where the gen public can see it.........and they can comment on it too........

first i want to say i use to say that word if not commonly, at least enough to be embarrassed. my mother use to call us mongoloids if we were doing something stupid (she was born in 1940) its kinda of funny, my mom never raised us to be bigots, nor to make fun of people with disabilites, she did admonish us not to stare at people with disabilities(not stare=ignore?)
of couse when i hear the word i cringe,,, i accept the use of the word retardation when used in a clinical context, using the word retard, betard, tard, or beating your chest with ur hand while grunting is no longer acceptable to me, i must say that my wife has never tolerated the word used in our home even before victoria was born, my wife is a ddt/cna at the state hospital and takes care of people with severe retardation or brain trauma, she is very defensive about "her people"and would probably punch you in the throat if u use the word incorrectly, "ratard"
there is nothing good about the word, period, nothing but ignorance, intolerance, and fear! funny though people that wouldnt use the word retard dont have any problem using the word moron............. what does moron mean? its someone with a IQ of 50 or less (maybe 75 i cant remember) but the point is calling someone a moron is the same as calling someone a retard, so what are we going to do now , when someone uses that word in front of us? i usually

wow , being an older parent i worry about this alot, my kids all fight over whos gonna take care of victoria when we are older, lol , i told them that that may be their plan now but as they get older their lives will change and they probably will want to be more focused on their own families it really is the scariest part of having a child with t21 , the future and the unknown, i know that didnt help but i just wanted you to know that you are not alone, god bless
