We have been told by professionals lately and have noticed that Damara has a very tough time with focusing. She goes from paying attention really well, to not being able to focus. We've had things thrown out to us from diet to meds...she doesn't seem to be learning very well either. She counts one day then will count like 1,2,5,10...same with everything, one day she will know it, the next like she never heard of it. Wondering if there is a way to work with her without calling dr. for meds. I REFUSE to jump to meds. Please help...

{{{{{{HUGS}}}}} Hmmmm..... Is she doing this at school or just at home when you guys are working on some task? Brook will "pretend" she "forgot" something just to be a stinker. I can see that she knows what i'm saying but the little glimmer and smirk on her face tells me Brook is being stubborn so she doesn't have to do school with mom anymore. Lucky for me i'm the most stubborn and we will sit there untill she does it right. I'm probally no help at all. Sorry {{{hugs}}}} What do the professionals say to do? Medicate? Ugggg. They always jump to that IMHO It took years of watching Mary's progress or lack there of to finally say ok to meds. Yearrrs. At first she did better but now she is a teenager and doing all the lovely teenager stuff. What Mary takes does help with concentration on the task but then the teenager comes out and, well, you know

She does this EVERYWHERE. School, Therapy, home, church...it's frustrating. I KNOW there is something we can do without drugs to start....I just need someone to tell me what it is...

Just throwing this out there, have the eyes and hearing been tested lately? My boy who is 16 started meds just a few years back, now is off them BUT we waited a very long time before we started him on them. For him he needed them really still does BUT we are trying very hard to work without them now. Personally I get nuts cause so many of the meds they put our kids on have not been tested on kids, KWIM? Are you having behavior issues other then not just focusing? CC ~

I was thinking of you last night. I had this idea What about changing up the routine/schoolwork. Maybe she is getting bored with the way it is now and needs a change. Have the teachers tried this. Maybe she needs a little mixing it up. Couldn't hurt eigh?

Well, her behavior has changed now that you mention this and I give it some thought. She has been "rough" with her friends at school alot , kicking at the table or just "getting in thier space"...she has been "mouthy" at home and alot of timeouts... We have started her on vitamins that have been suggested to us to help with attention and focus. So...I guess we'll know in a few weeks!
