Wow! I'm having serious trouble believing that my "little" boy is 5 1/2 and will be starting Kindergarten in two months . He's come so very far, and we've had many wonderful times together. At the same time there are a whole new set of mountains and hills ahead. After much contemplation and hair pulling we decided to start with him at the same wonderful parent cooperative (K-8) that his brother attends. I'm now working on getting the public district to provide at least some services since the school just doesn't have the resources (and we don't have the money). The benefits of an incredible set of dedicated teachers, small classes, a familiar environment, the general atmosphere of no teasing allowed and interage and interability interactions, and the closeness of his brother swayed us. Now I keep second guessing myself and our decisions. EEEEEKKKKK!

This sounds great!! The best written IEP can't compare to loving, dedicated teachers IMHO

It's down to just over a week now! I'll keep you posted once school actually begins. The district is now saying they don't have to provide any direct services to him, only services to the teachers and school through a "Service Plan". Now I get to research how the laws in Virginia have changed since I checked them last three years ago or so. I've also asked his Case Manager (he has a Medicaid Waiver) to look into whether the waiver will cover aides since they are NOT available from the school. Generally aides are not covered because the school systems are supposed to provide them. It will be interesting, though I have a few people who may be able to provide part-time help as volunteers or on the barter system if necessary.
Here we go...
