hello everyone. i know we have talked about this before. if your kids have had a whole adenoids taken out did it effect there speech. some say their kids talk through their noses. well some say that they only had a part of the adenoids taken out to keep their speech good. how did your kids do after the whole or part of adenoids taken out. sue

I'm really interested in the reply's. Justin has always been very "snorty" sounding. He's not congested and the pedi thinks it may be his adnoids. I've often wondered if a full removal would affect his speech. I was going to post about this, so thanks Sue.

Justin is scheduled for T/A and tubes on the 1st. His ENT said they will not take out all the adnoids just enough to give him room. She said if they take out too much or all that he would have problems talking. Our neighbors little girl well she's 7 had hers out and they did take a little too much and she does sound like she's talking out of her nose. Hope this helps and I will let you know how Justin does with his out.

Ashlie has only had 1/4 of her adnoids removed because she said since she has a high pallette if they were to remove them all it would affect her speech and change her face structure of the bad side I think this is whats causing her sleep obstruction, Hugs Heidi

Hey Justinsmom. Rhienne had his tonsils and 1/2 of his adenoids out. He sounds just a little nasal to me, but it isn't too bad. It made all the difference in the world though with his sleep. He had obstructive apnea, and it was so bad that they put him on oxygen during the study!! I felt so bad that I didn't know he was sleeping THAT badly. It is mmmuuuuccchhhhh better now, though he does have some residual apnea, but not enough to do anything else evasive. If it gets any worse, we may have to do the mask thing, although I am not sure how he would tolerate it.

Cody had his tonsils and adenoids out 2 years ago. I didn't even know about it affecting his speech. The Dr. never said anything to us about it. Needless to say, I couldn't tell any difference with his speech after the surgery. Sounds the same to me. Hugs, Kristi

Chris is 9 now but at 5, hmmmm was either 4 or 5 he had his adnoids removed. Doc said they are sooo large must come out. Once he took them out the Doc came to us and said, Geez they weren't that large after all, GRRRRRRR. Never went back to that Doc I will tell you Chris wasn't talking much at 5 soooo I have noooo idea if it affected his speech or not but he does have the nasal speech. Noooo one ever mentioned to us that taking all the adnoids could be an issue with speech sooo I have nooo idea if he would have had the nasal speech anyway He still has his tonsils in. I have been told they are quite large also, but I don't know that I believe them after the adnoid experience

Well Justin had his tonsils and adenoids and tubes done yesterday. He did great no problems. His doc did say his adenoids were exceptionally large we knew his tonsils were but didn't expect the adenoids to be too. He was in the PICU overnight as a precaution needless to say he was the healthiest one in the icu I felt bad. He slept all day and all night. The anesthesiologist gave him a different anesthetic because his sister had such a rough time with the usual one. This one lets them sleep longer instead of waking up too fast after surgery. They also didn't take out all of the adenoids because the doc said that's what causes the kids to have the nasal sounding speech most of the time. He is tugging at his left ear though even though he got tubes put in each it was his left ear that had the mild hearing loss and mild fluid buildup. So I think he can tell the difference now. Hope this helped.

HI!!!! My girl Olivia had her tonsils and adnoids removed in May. Her whole adnoids were removed . She came out of it fine and was YAKKING right after the surgery!I have not noticed her speech being more nasaly at all. Her speech is the same to me. I was quite concerned about that as well and my fears were relieved when she started asking for me right after she was taken out of surgery!!!! They did keep her overnight and the recovery time was about 2 weeks in total. She no longer gets bad colds. The doc said her adnoids and tonsils were huge. when she would get a cold... and seem like she was over it...she would develop another one soon thereafter even worse than the first. WELL it was explained to me that since her ad's were soo big that although she was over a cold some of the YUCK would get stuck on her HUGE adnoids and then she would get another one cause she still had the viral infection sitting on her adnoids. Did that make sense>>>LOLAnyhow she did soo well and her speech was unaffected..Take it easy....0

CC if you can look in Chris' mouth you can tell if they are huge or not. On all of my kids you could see how big they were. They only left a small opening in their throat. My 5 yr old had hers out when she was 2 also hers were so big they were causing sleep apnea. My 10 yr old had hers out 4 months later due to snoring. But if they are huge you can definitely see them.
