Here is a piece to encorage those of you with younger kids... ;D
Tonight is the first night of Hannukkah. I was working on the computer (copying new disks I bought for Shmuel (gift),and for myself, so we have a spare if the bought one gets cracked or scratched. So Ricki was alone a while. On finishing, I discovered Ricki, in the kitchen, trying to make jelly doughnuts (thank G-d I caught her early in the process!) (jelly doughnuts are eaten in Israel to celebrate hannukkah.) She had: -found the cookbook on an upper shelf -found the page with the correct recipe -gotten out the needed ingredients listed on the page.
With much trouble I convinced her that she can't do it alone, and anyway the recipe is "milkey" and we all eat a meat meal at lunch. So she settled to make potato patties together with Yitzchak. Happy Hannukah to those celkebrating it! ;D

LOL - sounds like you have a "Chef of the Future" in the making! Might need to tap into some hidden talents?
Hope you and your family and all that are celebrating have a terrific Hannukah. We celebrate Christmas here and every morning I am awaken by "Mommy, is Santa here yet?" I get to reply, "No, not yet Babe." Then, "well is it my birthday then?" UGH December is way too busy in my house! LOL
Enjoy!!!!

That is very cute!!!! Sounds like a budding chef in the works! Rickismom, my mom's stepmom, my grandmother, is Jewish. Growing up we got to experience some of the Hannukah foods and traditions. I sure do miss that. I also dated a guy for a couple years when I was in my 30's. We drove to my uncle's house a few hours away and his aunt lived in the same town. We got to experience both Passovers I love Jewish foods. I miss my grandmother's chopped liver too and the potato latkes (did I spell that right?). A.

Happy Hannukah! Good for Ricki for helping with the holidays.
We are of the Catholic persuasion, however my son with Ds is insisting we call our Jewish friends today and invite ourselves over for the first night. We do love those latkes. Last time we went over, the t.v. station came and filmed the lighting ceremony. Gracious as ever, our friends had Menorahs for all the kids to light. When it was edited and shown on the news, we ended up in all the footage. We sat home all evening waiting for our priest to call!

Haopy Hannukkah to all of you.....and Ruth I think it is terrific that Ricki got as far as she did...she was using good initiative to get something she really wanted. Enjoy your holidays....each and every one of you who are celebrating now.

Happy Hannukah to all who are celebrating!!
I think it's great that Ricki wanted to help....who can resist jelly donuts? But's it's good that you got in there before she really got started :-D Are jelly donuts only a celebratory food for Hannukah in Israel or elsewhere in the world as well?

Happy Hannukah to all celebrating!!!
My husband's family is Polish (3 of his grandparents emigrated from Poland) and at part of the traditional foods at Easter include a jelly donut - can't remember the exact name but sounds like "punchkey".

Definitely a Chef in the works, I don't know how to make jelly donuts, I don't even bake !! I made chocolate chip cookies once with my nephews, and I swear the batter evaporated in to thin air the only thing left on the cookie sheet was just burnt chocolate !! LOL !!
Gotta say LOVE the latkes to, my cousins are Jewish, I am not though, but LOVE Jewish food so much !! YUMMY !!
Happy Hannukkah !!

Yes, Latkes is spelled right. Here in Israel, jelly doughnuts are used. In Europe Hannukkah was celebrated with potato latkes. Today everybody eats both! (Unless they are on a diet- one jelly doughnut = 400 calories. ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) BEWARE! ;D ) The next day she sent me for a loop, she tried to cut out the laminated sheets of a book I made for my grandsons. She really destroyed them.... And friday morning she AGAIN tried to make doughnuts--- and she was NOT caught in time, and I can not even begin to describe the mess she made... LOL
