Christopher had been sick last week with a nasty cough, fever coming and going all week long, took him to the Peds last Thursday. I go where there are 4 Peds in a group, when the child goes in for a sick visit you can't pick the Doc. K, well they have a new Doc and we got her last Thursday. Both Colin and I took Chris in and we both did not like this Doc one bit Main reason we didn't like her is she talked talked and just did not listen to us K, she tells us Chris has a virus and it will just take time. Colin and I both left there thinking if you knew Chris this is more then a virus. Whatever we figured she is the doc. K, well come Monday he is still coughing very nasty and still on and off with a temp. So I called the office and told the nurse have the Doc I like call me. She did and after listening she said get him in here something is not right this is not like Chris. So today we go back to see my favorite doc she checks him out sends us for chest X rays and blood work. I just got home not 20 min. after and the Doc was on the phone. Chris has Pneumonia (sp?) which showed up in his lower right lung I said WOW I am so glad I called you and she was like I am glad you did too. She will need to talk to the new Doc and explain to her you need to listen better. Hopefully I will not have to see this new doc again but if we do you can bet this time I will say with all due respect LISTEN I know my son. So after all that today was the appointment with the surgeon to set a date to get that lump thing off his back. I just love this surgeon, he took care of Christopher's Hernia many many years ago. Anywho he examined Chris and then said to me, "Christie, I am a surgeon and I do love to due surgery BUT I am not sure about what this is and do not want to cut Chris open without knowing" So he is sending Chris for a ultra sound of the lump before he even considers cutting. YEA for him and I am thinking Hmmm this is what the Dermatologist (sp?) should have done before they sent us off to a surgeon. Chris was so GOOD at both getting the X ray and the blood test OMG he sadly in a way has become a pro at this stuff. He has grown up so much and the days of sweat and tears during tests are gone ;D Sorry this is so long, if you read thus far to you. CC ~

OH, I know how frustrating it is when you're dealing with someone who doesn't KNOW your child and doesn't listen! Glad you got in to see your other doctor and got him taken care of!

Hi CC~
It's a trip that I am reading this because I was just diagnosed with pneumonia in my right lung too!! Poor Chris... it's a tough thing.
Hope Chris gets better quick and that he is able to get the lump removed soon. Just like we know our kids, I knew there was something more wrong with me and my dr got it wrong too. That is so frustrating!!
Hang in there...
Jodi

Christy, don't be too quick to dismiss the new doc - she may well learn and be the best doctor ever in time. Good thing though, that you are not new to this boy and his symptoms Gotta say, you are lucky that the doc you like would see him after he'd been seen for this by another doc. In our Peds office, you have to stick with the same doc through the course of any sickness or injury So if I have to take the kid back, it has to be to the same one that failed the first time - and do you think I get a break on the price since that doc failed the first time No way. I'd switch but the doc I love is there, and they have at least 4 others that I just adore. So I'm stuck with their policies and make sure we never go to see one I don't like.

Sorry All seems to happen at once for Chris, doesn't it? Give Chris & yourself a big hug fo me. I'm not saying not to give the new one another chance, but I did for the one I don't like (12 years later). I still don't like her Not again for me. When I call the docs office I say I want an appt with...I have had them say that doc's schedule is full & explained that for this situation my kid would not do good for a new doc..He made time ;D Chris Too...As far as a doc's office telling me I'm going to have the same lousy doc...NOT! I pay them, just like I pay a plummer. I have switched John-John docs before. I love the one I have now. Pat

Your poor little guy, glad you got to see your DR. next. Man that is a shame the first Dr. didn't pick that up on him and he had to suffer longer. Good luck with Ultrasound on his back.

Sorry he's sick...poor guy! Hopefully he gets better quick! The new doc dropped the ball....anytime you have a persistent fever and cough, pneumonia should be suspected. And if you listen well to breath sounds, you should be able to pick something up. In the doc's defense, some viruses have similar symptoms, but you should cover all bases. Not sure if I would see that particular doc again, unless I had to. Sounds like they need some "listening" skills. Prayers coming your way!

THANKS Gals and THANKS Jennifer for asking
Chris has been having a hard time and just not feeling that great still they have him on Biaxin 2 teaspoons twice a day and its giving him terrible headaches and his stomach is very upset His cough YIKES BUT they want him to cough it up. The Doc wanted to see him again so we went and she said yup she could hear it still crackling what ever that means He has to go back to her 2 days after he finishes the meds.
She was also worried that his blood work showed again increase and over the normal number for creatinine (sp?) This has been going on for some time with the increase so she is sending us to a specialist in Morristown, we go Sept. 16th. Personally I think she is being over protective of Chris but both Colin and I are well better safe then sorry.
Tuesday the 8th he goes for his ultrasound of the lump on his back so hopefully will know more soon on that.
Jodi girl OMG no kidding, hope you are feeling tons better by now.
Chris Too I have been going to the same peds since Kodi Lee was born and she is 20. I know the original 3 but this new one have to say at my age and with my kids being older I have been through enough Docs to know when they won't listen they are not the Doc for me, KWIM. I told my favorite Doc about it and told her look I am sure she is a fine Doc but she needs to listen and the Ped told me "Christie we are taking care of this you are not the first to tell us that recently".
Funny years ago before I had kids I would never question a Doc, I was like they Know all, KWIM BUT I have learned its OK to question them, cause they are NOT always right.
CC ~

Same thing happened to us a few years ago. Luckily, my friend the hospice nurse who is usually very mild-mannered, threw a hissy fit and ordered us back to the pediatrician. One of the partners found the pneumonia at the spot where my friend told me to put the stethascope.
To parents of little ones, you know your child. Always go with your instincts.

I pick my doctors based on 2 things: how well they listen to me, and how well they respond to my concerns - if they do those things right, they are not likely to go far wrong on anything else. The office staff and/or management company is less important to me, so I just find ways to deal with their policies. I'm praying for Christopher - poor guy. Why is it that it just has to pour when it rains? What's wrong with a sprinkle now and again
