Today, Laura and I were doing the grocery shopping. We stopped at the ice cream freezer and looked at the ice cream. Laura rarely varies from one flavor - vanilla. I pulled out some vanilla, only to hear Laura say: L - "Ewwwww Mom, not that" M - "It's vanilla, I thought that is what you wanted" L - "Mom, it says vanilla BEAN ice cream. Eww, I don't want bean ice cream. Thats disgusting" M - puts back the ice cream, and gets French Vanilla. Mom knows when to just shut her mouth. Yesterday afternoon Laura got in the car and was excitedly telling me about the "peppy rally" they had. I started to correct her, but then decided it was a rally, and I am sure it was peppy. I liked this one. The other day, Mike and Laura were having a conversation about straightening up in the house. Mike was trying to explain something, and Laura was getting tired of listening. She looked at Mike and said "Dad, what's your point"? Without missing a beat he said "My point is" and went on talking. Wow, we were very impressed with her asking, we don't mind (too much) the teenager sassiness she puts with it. And we love how it shows how much she is growing. Mike said a few years ago it would have stopped him in his tracks to hear her say that, and now it is just...................Laura, having a conversation with her Dad. How............hmmmm, what's the word? I know........normal. Sharon

I love it, Sharon!!! I always enjoy hearing about other teens, and especially Laura since she is so close in age to Emily. Keep posting your Laura-isms, and I'll have to post a few of Emily's funny's too.

How cool is that? Normal conversation. Love it. I do have to agree with Laura on the vanilla BEAN ice cream - it's chalky. I much prefer the French vanilla. Good sense in that girl

Thats all so cool...I love hearing these stories...and most of this is when you least expect it. Yes it is heartwarming to realize our kids have thoughts and conversations just like kids without DS. Some of our familie's best moments come from Emily comments...so keep posting...everyone. And I too like French Vanilla...LOL...thats so funny. But you know my son David who is now 35 won't eat anything that says "Made from 'scratch' " LOL...he says the thought of eating 'scratch' still gags him. ;D

Oh, I LOVE it! Especially the "what's your point?" comment. And they ARE "peppy" rallies, aren't they? LOL!
Ethan's latest was to tell me, one afternoon when I was changing something in his room, to "Get out of my room, mom. It's MY room. You're in my space". LOL! Sassy little snot.
