we were attending EI for Chris and next month I will be attending a workshop on Real Life Choices, Family Support, Intake, Self Directed Services, Community Care Waiver, Residential Placement and Olmstead... Chris is only 16 soon to be 17 and with a blink of an eye will be going on 21 I will be honest I am a bit spooked about what the future holds, but its time to just jump in there, I think I am just glad that this workshop is being offered in my area. We attended a workshop last year that covered these topics, CC and it was really helpful. In fact, there is another one today and we are going to it too!! I still don't feel "ready"!! It really does seem like just yesterday when I was afraid of moving from Early Intervention services to our public school system..........and now Emily is 18! And yet, it's hard to remember her not being a part of our family too. I hope the workshop is very helpful for you!

Heck, Russell is only 11 and I'd like to do that CC!!!
16 is that magic *number* age where you have to start talking about transition to adulthood IEP stuff...... I think going to those workshops or whatever is a great idea!!! Please share if you find out anything good!

Wow, they grow up TOO fast. I really think thinking about transitioning with our kiddos starts from day one-at least I have been thinking about it. I love hearing where everyone here is in different stages of their children's lives, and just taking it all in and filing it away for the day I will need it!!

Courtney will be turning 18 next month and that has been so hard for me. I am not sure why I am feeling like this but I have been so upset about it. We have to go for a hearing next week for gaurdianship for her. I am told I have to make a statement about her at the hearing and I have no clue what to say. I am just a wreck. We also were told that we have to file for social security and aid for disabled adults for her too. So much to do. I will get through it I am sure, LOL.

Yikes and double yikes I say.. it IS good to go to the workshops and get this information but I do feel it's very overwhelming also! Shelly Gabe turned l8 this summer and I am just now getting around to getting his guardianship. That is such a big "gulp" moment for me because I have been this kid's mom ;it seems so odd to be applying for guardianship. Dealing with all the social security and different expectations is just so so difficult.. and emotional also. Is it ever possible to feel "ready?' Not for me I don't think!! I'm still thinking about how hard moving Gabe from EI to elem. school was so hard for me also, and really that was a long time ago now lol. That's one reason I'm so glad for Uno and all the ages and stages that are represented here by our kiddos. It's still tough tho whenever there is a BIG change like transition.. glad I am not the only one to think so!
