Thought this article was pretty cool... many, many moons ago I went to this school (classes from K-6) and now my Mom is a "class Grandma" in one of the first grade classes several days a week! ( She volunteers as an extra aid to the teacher - helping out with special projects, reading to the kids, etc.) www.boston.com/news/education/k_12/articles/2004/12/12/inclusion_at_heart_of_his_school/Do you guys think we could kidnap this guy and clone him and put him in EVERY school? I know my Mom would help us! Barb

Barb,
Oh my gosh, I am so impressed by this man. If we can't clone him, can we clone his attitude? He should be teaching other districts how to do this. WOW!

This article makes me want to move there! That is so great that he is truly making an effort to make his school the absolute best for everyone! It is also nice to see a positive story!

Thanks! I'll make a print copy of it and use it later to show our future principle, if we have problems at Luke's school. Alice

Thanks for putting this up. We live outside of Boston and I saw this article last weekend. I wanted to clip it to keep in Peter's folder, but never got around to it. It is now there ( in his folder) and if anybody questions me, I am ready to whip it out!

We do not live in the Boston area, but the article is describing the environment in which our son attended elementary school. He was the first child with a developmental disability to challenge his school. Any school can be inclusive with a willing principle and reasonable, involved, informed and enthusiastic parents. There are now over 30 kids with disabilities at his elementary school based on word of mouth. Our son is currently in middle school.
In fact, I e-mailed the article to our school district and noted that it was nice that some other school (district) out there could do things as well as ours.!!!!!
Keeping good thoughts for you.
