Does anyone know how to fill out the papers for legal guardianship. My daughter will turn 18 in june and I just went to the Du Page court house to pick up the papers. I need help I do not know how to fill them out and was told by a clerk I would probably have to hire a lawyer. I do not have money to hire a lawyer to file for guardianship. Any info would be great thanks

Yes, this can add up to several hundred dollars, but it's something that needs to be done. You could check with your local ARC to see if they can help you out here. -- Bob

I just did this for my daughter at the end of last year. I was told that if I needed help that I could get someone at the courthouse to help me. Also the court should be appointing a lawyer to your daughter to represent her and he/she should be able to help you. My daughters lawyer was very helpful. I stressed alot about this and it went very smoothly. We did have to pay a fee to file for gaurdianship, I think it was around 150.00 but that was all we had to pay. The lawyer fee was based on my daughters income alone and because she didn't have any we did not have to pay for a lawyer. Hope this helps and good luck!
