Hey all! I am Erica momma to Natalie (6), Caleb (2), and Ephraim (3 months). We found out at 10 weeks that Ephraim has Mosaic Down Syndrome. We did not know during my pregnancy and I suspected it at birth but since no one said anything (mw or pedi) I thought I was seeing things. The heart doc is the one who ordered the tests that confirmed it. Anywho a friend rec. this board to me and I am excited to jump and get some help as some days I feel like I have no idea what I should be doing. Mini Cooper (Ephraim) also has a VSD and takes a few meds. We go back in July to see if they want to proceed with surgery or if they are going to hold off. I think that about sums it up.

welcome to the Board...what a cute little guy!!!! Houston has some excellent resources which I am sure you have explored.
My daughter Emily is the youngest of 4 and is now 30 years old. She lives in Austin by choice so she can be in an arts program. We live in the Panhandle 500 miles away. Emily worked in the Houston area for a year (Seabrook) where she was the housemanager/keeper for a physician and his wife who runs a supported employment project there.
You are in an excellent place to begin and we are very happy to see you here.
Jackie

Hello Erica. I am new to this site as well and also have a 3-month old baby with DS and a 2-year old. Here is naive question, what is Mosaic Down Syndrome?

Welcome to Unomas! What a beautiful family you have I'm gonna echo Pat - enjoy that little one while he's little It can get pretty hectic in that first year with the extra health concerns, so it takes a conscious purpose to just enjoy the babyhood. Chris too

Corine... MDS is when the cells begin spliting they start out okay, then some get that extra chromosome. So you have some that divide with 46 chromosomes & some that have 47 chromosomes.
Erica..John-John had a VSD and his closed on its own. I hope Ephraim's does too. Pat

TY everyone!
And Corine, don't feel naive. I have some doctors and nurses at the hospital asking me what it is when we go for tests. LOL.

Oh I missed the VSD part. Silly me. Brook had a ASD and a PDA in which both closed up all on there own. It can happen. But if surgery does have to happen you will be so happy as to how fast our kids heal up and flourish!!

Hey Erica Welcome to Uno! This place is so wonderful for info. You can ask anything and someone out there will know something or have experienced it. I was interested that you only found out about the DS at 10 weeks. I only found out at 4 months. My doctor wasn't educated at all. I had suspected and asked questions but he didn't order tests until later. Quite the shock. Sean had a hole in his heart but it grew over by the time we had him checked again when he was a year old. Enjoy your baby! You have been given a wonderful gift. With all the hard stuff that goes with these kids, their smiles and unconditional love make up for all of it.
