I know most saw this on FB but some aren't there, so I will update again on Russell's left eye. We had another exam under anesthesia and unfortunately it's gotten worse. It's atrophied more, more fluid as built up and his lens implant isn't where it should be, it's shifted. So, our eye doc said this makes his decision more clear on what to do. We (Kevin and I) really made the decision weeks ago and just needed the doctor to catch up to what we felt was best for Russell. So, we are VERY ok with this decision. Russell's behaviors get worse by the day/week. He is in pain and just over all miserable. No amount of "some vision" and worry that this leaves him with only one eye that will also get glaucoma in it some day and probably leave him totally blind makes it worth keeping the left eye. He is miserable and in pain and we won't torture him like this. Removing the eye takes away the pain. So, I will hopefully find out tomorrow when the surgery will be. They are going to try to add him on so I a hoping it will be this week but if not, next week. Then in 4-6 weeks he will get fitted for a prosthetic eye. We have 8 weeks of Summer and we have just enough time to get him use to all of this before heading to middle school, which is my goal. Doctor agrees, which our doc is awesome for that! I'd be lying if I said it still didn't make me sad, but I also know what is best for Russell and that is to be pain free and only with Autism behaviors LOL..not pain in the eye behaviors that have the whole family on edge.... THAT is the most important thing...... ** Edited to add that the surgery date is for Wed, June 23rd. A.

This sounds like totally the right decision for Russell. No one needs to live in needless pain. He will probably adapt to his prothesis in no time no doubt because will be gone. But to have to do this I am sure grieves you because I know it would grieve me . I bet you are also tired of hearing "how strong you are" (but truly you seem to be)...LOL so this post goes out to YOU...take care of yourself...hard to be a mommy/nurse/wife/comforter.

I always hate when ppl tell me how strong I am and here I am telling u that.LMAO It's usually when I feel the weakest and need someone to lean on most. So really a I am trying to say u don't hafta always feel like u hafta be strong but make sure u ask for help and surround those who love u most. That's where I get my strength when I need it most. Liv will be praying for russell till this is over. I swear she has an " in" with the person upstairs or wherever u may believe God or higher powers exist. hugs

A, I am so sorry Russell has been in so much pain. I am praying his surgery goes well and he is pain free in no time. Wish I lived close by so I could help. Heck, I can't think of anything better than having someone else clean my house! Chris
