Rys doctor was getting suspicious of his thyroid so ordered some tests. So after some tests and consulting with an endocrinologist at children's LA, they confirm he has Hashimotos thyroiditis. I've done lots of reading but wanted to hear from any parents that may have had some experience. We test again in 6 mos and no drugs yet.
By the way... Any DCI fans here? Oldest son is in so cal drum corps and they just left today for tour.

Hi Jodi,
Both Alison and I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Mine was confirmed by a needle biopsy of the thyroid along with bloodwork. Alison's was discovered when she was about a year old when having some routine bloodwork. She didn't start meds until she was about 18 months old. She takes Synthroid everyday, as do I. She's been on the same dose for about 4 years or so and we get bloodwork every six months. Me on the other hand.... not quite so stable as far as dosage goes for the synthroid! I seem to bounce between 2 different levels about every year or so. I've had it since shortly after having my oldest daughter who turned 20 last week.
Alison is great about taking the Synthroid - it's a very small tablet and she just swallows it down dry! Not me - I have to have something to drink with any pills!
I just think that of all the things that our kids with DS are more prone to having, this is a pretty easy to manage thing! Good luck!

Thanks Barb! It is nice to hear from someone living with it! I am thinking of getting checked for thyroid issues too. I have not felt like I have any energy for a while now. Of course it could just be I am getting older Jodi
