;D A little story for my friends. Yesterday the girls and I went to Kmart. We were bored and just goofing off. As we were walking through the store an older man came up to us. Nothing unusal there. Brook is a magnet for strangers. He asked if he could Pray for Brooker. I said "sure you can. Pray she is cute like this forever " and I continued to smell the candles. He said "No, let me Pray she is healed from this syndrome" My blood started to boil but i'm trying to come up with some sort of learning experence for the man but before I could open my mouth........ Mary, with her super overprotective sister mouth says.... " Don't you dare Pray to change her. I won't allow it. You obviously don't know what these kids are made of. We don't want her to be healed or changed you jerk. Next time before you go walking up to someone in the store asking to change their kid, you should ask the parents if they want their kid changed. Educate yourself on the love these kids have for everyone before thinking they need changed. You need changed dude." She grabed the cart and off she went with Brook. I stood there stunned for a minute. Couldn't believe what i'd just heard. I just looked at the man and said " Well, there you have it" and walked away. Most likely not the best approach but thats how it went down. I did have a talk with Mary later and told her I was proud of her for sticking up for her sister but we could probally come up with nicer ways to say it. She agreed but also said she was just down right ticked off. Her sister is perfect. I love these kids {{{{HUGS}}}}

meant to add here also...the other day I was telling someone that one of my daughters had DS and I got that "awwwwwwwwwwwww" response....and just felt the 'Mama Grizzly' in me come to life..But just went on and described her life in about 3 long sentences and left the person speechless...LOL...but still irks me people seem to feel the need to pity us.
Go Mary

Wow, I absolutely love it! How lucky Brook & Mary are to have each other!! I'm still trying to figure out how to get used to the pity & ignorance.

I am going to take the unpopular side of this story. This man was probably just ignorant and knew nothing about Ds. He was most likely trying to be compassionate. When I was pregnant with Sarah, a lady I know kept wanting to annoint me with oil and pray that Sarah would be healed. I kept telling her that I believed her heart defect could be healed but God CREATED Sarah with Ds. My belief is that we educate first.
That being said, I love how much our siblings want to protect their brother or sister. In Mary's eyes, Brook can't be improved on. ;D

Chris, I hear ya. Really I do. I was trying to come up with some educational something for the man but I think Mary got so mad b/c of the "look" he had. We have had more talks about this and I think she really understands what us parents are trying to do, educate, not be mean. Ya know how sometimes the Momma Bear comes out. I think Sister Bear roared her head She understands better now. I love ya all {{{{HUGS}}}}
