It has been several months since I have posted about Jaydens Dad, Jerry. A couple of months ago Jaydens Dad called out of the blue. It had been 7 months since he has called. He asked if he could talk to Jayden, since Jayden uses mostly sign I helped him talk to his Dad.
After talking to Jayden he wanted to speak with me. He began by apologizing for being "mean" to us. He said "I should have been calling Jayden every night at the very least." He asked if we could try to put things in the past and could I help him make this work so he can have a relationship with his son. We talked for about an hour, not about how he has failed Jayden but how we can have a meeting of the minds for Jayden.
Since that first call Jaydens father has called nearly every night and has visited him every single week. The visits are still at my home where he comes alone and spends one on one time with Jayden. Just recently we have started reintroducing his other children by phone, and visits. Jayden seems very happy about all this and has started to mimic many more words. His father seems very genuine and no longer complains about things but talks about things he wants to be able to do with Jayden.
Funny thing happend< Jaydens father GOT ENGAGED> Someone had mentioned this could happen and that perhaps he would begin to change. I totally dismissed this idea, thinking that he should want to be here for Jayden without having someone point out "the right thing to do". Honestly I do not care how it has happend, I am just thrilled that it has. They are planning a spring wedding and totally involving Jayden in those plans. I guess I should be more open to possibilities of change for the better.
Today is Thanksgiving and I have so much to be thankful for. Top of my list: I am thankful that I was able to put the past happenings behind, I am still very protective but thankfully not bitter. I am thankful to bare witness to this wonderful relationship forming between a father and his son. I am also thanful for Monica, Jerrys fiance.
I wish you all a VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING too.
