So remember when Brook went and had x~rays of her big toe b/c it was turning under her foot b/c of the butt scoot. Well we put her in the Sure Steps for what two yrs now almost. We went to the DSC today to hang w/ Dr Pinter and he says the good foot is good but the butt scooting big toe is getting worse. He wants us to go get more x~rays and then go see Marcus (Orthodic maker) and have special braces made to help the poor big toe One shoe will have just a little arch support but the other one will need like a casted sort of brace thing and something in it to "hold" the big toe in place. Hmmmmm......... i'll keep ya posted. In other news Brook is doing great and wow'd all the team members again. She is still Momma's little Googs ;D

I feel for you...Kathleen has had sooooo many orthopedic issues we can hardly keep up with them. But I have to say all the bracing and such does help her. It must make it easier and more comfortable because she won't leave the house wihtout her braces( an AFO and KAFO).Is it painful? Do they think it will correct it or just protect it from more damage? Good luck and keep us posted. Mary Grace

Well she has been complaining of "ouchies" w/ only that toe for a couple weeks now thats why I brought it up to Dr P. I think my toe would hurt too if it was stomped on by the rest of my foot. I does look red alot so I rub it, put two pair of socks on and wrap it w/ sport tape and put her slippers on. I didn't know what to do. I'll start making the calls on Monday. I'll give her hugs when she gets up in the morn CC

We went and got Brook fitted for one SMO and one arch support today. What kind of shoes will fit a SMO? Marcus said the ones she has, regular sneakers, will not work. Would this be a Stride Rite situation?

Kathleen had an SMO on her right foot and an AFO on her left. We always found sneakers at Walmart, Kmart or Target. Only the Velcro ones seemed to fit the brace(shich was fine that's what she wanted). They seemed to be wider. What used to ahppen was they would wear out on the inside first (the brace would rug on them). Now that Kathleen is older she has an AFO on the right and KAFO on the left so we still need wider shoes but she doesn't want velcroe (not for middle school KWIM?) We did find a pair of Nike with elastic bands on the top that fitted over the braces.I bought 2 pair when I found them. I'v also heard that New Balance are pretty wide sneakers. Hatchback makes shoes specific to wearing a brace but they're a bit pricey. This si a good way to find dress shoes. This was the hardest thing to find for Kathleen. And of course she could never wear sandles. One more thing we always take the inersole out and it gives you a bit more room.Good Luck... Mary Grace

We got "cookies" for Kaelyn's shoes a couple months ago. I don't know that I've noticed much difference tho. Still flat footed and walking on the inside of her feet. I just hate to be more invasive, but I don't want more problems for her!

Well we went and got Brooks new feet today. What a contraption this is LOL We went to Stride Rite in the outlet mall and i'd been saving for the sneakers. I picked out a pair of cute sneaks that this new SMO would actually fit in and about fell over when I took the $60 shoes to the counter and the lady said......." That will be $9.99 please" WoooooooHoooooooo!!! We went to lunch Brandi, did you have her feet looked at by a PT or a foot doctor. Maybe an arch support would help w/ the flat foot. Brook has one arch support and it will be delivered sometime this week. I'll keep a close eye to see if it helps her walk better.

;DWish I could find outlet Stride Rite for $10! I thought I did well when I paid $25. You go girl! John-John is now out of "boy" shoes. (so no more SRite) We are in a mans 6 1/2 W. Along with his flat foot he had to have a wide foot too. Pat

Well, what happened was a fellow parent/friend mentioned to me she though Kaelyn might need to be checked out, so at her 3 year check up, I mentioned it. The pediatrician said to ask the PT what she thought. They all just kind of said, "yeah, we can do that if you think she needs it". So I took her for them!

Well, don't spend a lot of money on shoes! The smo and the insert for the other foot provide all the support her food needs. And, to fit the smo in, pull the sole out of the shoe. You don't need it anyway, because the SMO is providing the support.
